Chris was fantastic! He was professional, knowledgeable, and patient. He took the time to explain all of my options clearly and made sure I understood everything before moving forward. I truly appreciated his patience and customer service. I will absolutely request Chris for future service calls. Highly recommend Bruce's!!!
TL;DR: Get a second opinion. Always. Don’t let them pressure you. We had two separate experiences with Bruce’s, and both felt more like pressure-based up-sells than actual service. Most recently, they diagnosed our rooftop AC with two failing motors and quoted us over $2,000, pushing a “discount” if we signed up for their yearly subscription plan. The tech seemed okay, but the moment we said we wanted to think it over or compare quotes, we were suddenly put on the phone with a manager. That’s when the classic sales lines started: • “We’ve been in business 50+ years” • “No one else gives quotes over the phone” (Not true btw) • “We’re not trying to sell you anything” • “We’re just trying to help” "We don't upsell" It all felt scripted. And the way they got defensive so quickly just because we wanted a second opinion was a huge red flag. That’s what pushed us to get someone else immediately. So we called another company (Semper Fi). Their tech inspected everything and found that the real issue was a refrigerant leak, which was what caused the motors to fail. Like Bruce’s, they also backed it up with photos, diagnostics, and a detailed breakdown. I want to make it clear that Bruce’s findings were not wrong. But they only diagnosed the symptom, not the root cause. We would’ve spent thousands on a band-aid repair, with no fix to the underlying issue. Earlier this year, we also had Bruce’s look at a portable AC problem. Instead of offering help, the tech spent over 20 minutes trying to pitch us on a “limited-time, exclusive” subscription plan and a NEW AC that we didn't need. He kept stepping outside to “talk to his boss,” then returned with more sales pressure (oh sorry, I meant he returned to "help" us). The manager got involved again (don’t remember if it was the same guy), repeating the “we’re just trying to help” line. Eventually, my mom had to outright tell them that we couldn’t afford it just to get them to stop and leave. In the end, we just paid someone on Thumbtack to fix the AC. This company acts more like a sales team than a service provider. If you don’t believe me, test it yourself. Just say you want to think it over or something, and see how fast their tone will change.
Bruce's A/C: A/C replacement unit. Caught me late on a Friday / 115 degree day; wife had had a stroke and I couldn't wait. Way over-priced but I was in a serious pinch. They even brought their mba-wannabe around the next morning to see the dummies they'd conned. An employee ripped an old thermostat off the wall, then said 'oops' but didn't offer to repair the new hole in the wall. Didn't give me five seconds of explanation of how to use the new thermostat. Haven't responded to any request for information on how to best use the new thermostat. Or any other 'inquiry'. Or my request for a receipt that actually was complete and legible. Saying you should count your fingers when you get done 'shaking hands' with one of their reps does not begin to capture the reality. And, yes, this has taken awhile because my wife requires my attention almost 24/7. And, yes, removing all the graphic and explicit expletives from this 'review' has shortened the length by about 90%.
