I got a free quote for a fence around my yard. They kept telling me they could start the project within 4-6 weeks after receiving the 50% down payment. They told me the project would get done within 1-2 days. So, when I got the quote, I asked them to include with it a statement that work would start within 12 weeks and the project would be finished within 20 business days. I feel this is plenty fair to ask a professional business. But, they wouldn't agree to put any timelines in writing. There is also a four foot section of fence that has visible roots at grade. They told me they would have to possibly cut some roots and adjust locations of the posts. That is obviously reasonable. However, their terms and conditions in the quote leave it open for them to charge extra after the project for unseen roots or rocks unknown of at the time of quoting. I asked that he includes in writing that there are roots visible in that section and we discussed that area being included in the quoted cost, so additional costs after the project would not be included for that section. They wouldn't agree to that. So, to sum it up, they would not agree to scope or timeline that was more conservative than what they kept stating verbally.
