Idella Robertson
I live out of state but I travel almost 5hrs on a regular basis to the Des Moines area. I was having trouble with my car as I traveled this past weekend. I found myself in need of a mechanic. Found Stephen's on Google search, and called on late Saturday afternoon. They were willing to fit me in on Monday morning. I had hoped it was a fairly easy fix...as a diagnostic had been performed 2 days prior (on the way to the area). Unfortunately, nothing showed up on their diagnostic machine. They tried to duplicate it the mechanical issue but were unable to. I was hoping for ideas/suggestions to fix what I felt was a small problem without total reliance on a diagnostic machine....possibly ideas based on experience and the problem I was presenting to them....which essentially was an air flow sensor (MAPS,) but instead, I feel like I was treated as though I had no idea what I was talking about, and I was told that the previous diagnosis meant nothing and they could do nothing. After NOT being able to help me in any way, or offering any helpful suggestions, I was charged $200 for services. I was shocked as I was not told about their diagnostic fee up front. Jeff stated he did, but he did not. If he had, I would have declined their services during initial call and found another place due to that being above my budget. After meeting another local mechanic, he suggested that I simply get mass air flow spray and clean the sensor, which I did. He also showed me where it was and how to do it myself. Unfortunately, I did not feel heard, nor treated with respect. I feel I was over charged and essentially received no services.
