I have used Parts Depot a number of times over the years for keeping my appliances and HVAC equipment, old and new, running. Most parts houses (understandably) don’t want to sell to consumers; these guys will. My experience has been that if they don’t have it, they can get it faster and often cheaper than ordering it online. My only complaint is that they’re an hour and a half from where I live!
I called about a part for my air conditioner. They said they could have it the same day for a small shipping cost. They called me back in a few hours and they had the part. I picked it up, paid a reasonable price and was on my way. It just sounds like a regular experience but these days when so many businesses are totally incompetent, having a no stress interaction was refreshing. I will go back again if I need another part.
Greatly disappointed. Called to see if specific part was in stock to support local business vs online suppliers. Owner said the part was in, upon pick-up I expressed concern over the part number not matching. I was assured it was correct and they had checked with the biggest HVAC service company in town (w/ inference of who was I to question them?). However, I was correct, it was the wrong part. I had paid nearly double the online price to begin with but the repair was needed and I value brick & motar & esp local businesses. I was able to return it the wrong part LESS a 15% restocking fee! This fee is so offensive as they did not give me the part # I requested (as they didn't have it in stock), but instead gave me the one they had in stock & assured me it was correct. They were made whole with the return and can make full profit in the future on this part, but I was burdened w/wasted time & expense from the wrong part and charged a fee for the hassle. The 15% restocking fee is not disclosed until AFTER you've paid (it is only listed on the bottom of the receipt).
If you are competing with online suppliers you may want to do better by your local customers wanting to support you! I ended up ordering online w/ great customer service & rcvd the correct part for 50% less. Very disappointing.
I paid a little more for a normally stocked part (flame sensor), instead of ordering online b/c I wanted to support local business. I also placed a special order the same day.
I determined I didn’t need the flame sensor (unopened) and was charged a restocking fee when I returned. Who does this?
Since they don’t appreciate my attempt to do business, I’ll only go back if I’m in a real pinch.
Enjoy the $3 you didn’t earn, Parts Depot!
