we used Nelson to do several upgrades to are home we had just purchased. As far as the work done in the house they were fast and did a really good job,I wanted the Garage to be on it's own Electrical Panel so we had them do that as well again they did a good job. After the Derecho went threw a few years back, and being out of power for almost eight days,I have a big concern about that happening again,I bought what I thought was a big enough generator to run a house.but turns out it was no where big enough,I asked for and got a quote to have a natural gas generator installed.and we ended up with some add ons that we missed during are initial walk thru quote. We needed a electrical plug for the new hot water heater, right kind of plug receptacle for the new dryer, and new receptacle for the washer old one was cracked.and they also put the power cord on the new dryer. That came to $3800 dollars so wish I had asked for a quote instead of just saying go ahead, and if you use Nelson Electric you should remember to do the same. The Generator ended up all done close to $14000,a couple thousand over the their initial quote but still fair. Now here is where I have a Big issue about the Generator. If they Install several of them threw out the year.I would think they should have a Good General Knowledge of how things go and what is all involved.I was told they do it all but,It was up to us to have the gas line hooked up they only do electrical.,when asked WHO I should get a hold of to have that done,Was told they have no idea we only do electrical.Once I finally did find an authorized contractor,I was informed that what the Generator pulls for Natural gas while running would take away from are Gas Furnace,Stove,Water Heater, and one or more would be deprived of gas and Pilot Light would go out but still have gas flowing in just not enough to keep them burning. So what was going to be a $900 dollar hook up turned into a $3900 dollar job,Having to replace ALL the new gas line we just had installed,Since each Appliance that runs on gas now had to have its own Regulator, and are Existing Gas Meter would have to be replaced. This was Seven weeks ago.Seems only one that can upgrade your Gas Meter is Alliant,And you will have better luck winning the Lottery over getting a call back from them.So I have a $14000 dollar paper weight sitting along side my house,If power goes out Are Home will be included since we are unable to run the generator. So for as MANY installs they said they have done,I would think they would have a good idea what all is involved, and would let you know up front before throwing good money down the drain. So my personal take on Nelson Electric,is they are willing to sell you anything, but your left in the cold and dark if any issues arise. The contractor that Hooked the gas Line up to the Generator also does Electrical as well. The $10000 to run power to the garage new fuse panel five lights three plugs in,He would have only charged $2400.Going to chalk up using Nelson Electric as a very expensive lesson learned.
