Mary's Alterations

Mary is the only person I trust with alterations — and has been for almost ten years! Before I moved out of state, she worked on everything from my thrifted jeans to bridesmaids’ dresses, and every piece always fit perfectly. So naturally, when it came time for my wedding dress, there was no one else I could imagine trusting with it. She handled it with the same care, precision, and kindness she always has. Mary is truly a gem, and Clemson is so lucky to have her!

I’ve been debating posting this review but after looking over my dress, deciding what to do next, i decided others should be aware when deciding about bringing their own items here. I initially reached out to Mary about altering my wedding rehearsal dress and while her customer service was amazing the quality of work was severally lacking. I’ve attached pictures of loose material, generally bad stitching, appliques cut in half instead of removed, and holes all around the bottom of the bodice. I went to Mary’s a total of 3 times and every time she wouldn’t take in the bodice because I’ll “probably gain weight before the wedding” (I’ve been a size 2 for 6+ years) and at my last appointment she literally ripped material from under the dress (more shown hanging in the images). This is material that should’ve been removed with a seam ripper from the start. Lots of little things that add up. These are alterations I could’ve done at home but don’t have the time for and now I’m having to sort out where to start after spending the money that I did. I appreciated her kindness and effort but expected more from an experienced seamstress. I keep having to edit this review as I keep finding things wrong but hopefully this helps. I made it clear when I picked up my dress that I wasn’t pleased with having to take off 3 days of work and it still not being correct/fitting. Just beware. I took my actual wedding dress to someone else. It’s a bit more expensive but so worth it in the end.

Mary altered my formal dress for my grandsons wedding and made a big mess. She took it up so much that the left arm no longer matches the right arm. Also the sequins don’t match the right arm any longer. She also hemmed my sleeves and now the dress is no longer long sleeves but instead three quarter length which doesn’t match the formal dress it was. I am very saddened by this mess she made. My dress was $500 and she charged $160 for this mess. Now I’m forced to start over with another dress. Mary knew she did not have the ability to fix my dress yet she took the job anyway. Please don’t make my mistake.
