We have stayed here before and will stay here again if the occasion presents. These are clean, pleasant, comfortable rooms, and a great value. The owners, a couple, care very much for their guests. We always prefer family owned accommodations over hotel chains.
Stillwater lodge is by far the most accommodating and welcoming place I’ve ever stayed at. Mark (the owner) felt like family. We grilled out most nights and swapped stories with Mark. He is a wealth of knowledge on the towns history and just an all around good guy. The rooms were comfortable and clean. 10/10
My husband and I stayed at the Stillwater Lodge and had an amazing time. The town is peaceful and Mark made us feel like family. You don’t find many places like this and can’t wait to go back!
I have never in my life had a worse experience at a hotel! In fact the owner Mark encouraged me to post this review while he was verbally beating down my 84 year old friend in the parking lot of the hotel.
How did this begin you might be asking.
We arrived at the hotel the day of our reservation. No one in the office to check us in. The note one the door said to ring the door bell, if that doesn’t work the dog barking will get there attention. If no one comes to the door please use the telephone to the left of the door and call this number for assistance.
My friend made the reservation so he called the number. Mark had answered the phone. Mark immediately became irritated because we didn’t know what room we were staying in. Communication that was never given while making reservations. My friend expressed this and Mark became agitated on the phone. After a couple minutes with no positive results we gave Mark our number to call us back. We then started driving back towards Columbus to get a room. Something we should have followed through with at that moment.
Just as we were leaving town the cell phone rings and its Marks wife. Incredibly nice woman and apologized for the confusion. Told us what room we were in and the key is under the mat in front of the door. We then turned around and went to the hotel. After putting our bags in the room, we grabbed some dinner and met some local friends. Upon returning to the motel around 8 pm we found someone waiting for us in the parking lot. It was Mark. Mark then decided to tell us how we were not welcome there and he wanted us to leave! This continues for about 15 minutes of Mark beating us down verbally and telling us to give our review as he doesn’t care. This was not a conversation, Mark just told us to shut the hell up because he’s going to do the talking. When he finally finishes up he says stay the night but be gone in the morning! We should have left then but had no where else to go. I guess we could’ve slept in the front seat of the truck and that would’ve been a better option.
I woke up the following morning and my bed was nearest the door. My friend says oh you’re back? Puzzled I said what do you mean? He said the door opened at 1:15 in the morning for about 15 seconds. He thought I went out. Not the case, it didn’t wake me but someone had opened the locked door.
Believe me I double checked the lock after the exchange with Mark. I was certain to lock the door!
Very scary experience.
We stayed at the Stillwater in downtown Absarokee in September of 2023 and had a very pleasant stay.
And they do have TV in the rooms, in case you want to catch up on news and pass the time until going back out into that beautiful MT countryside during the day.
Motel is right down town next to a little cafe with a good ham & eggs breakfast.
So we would definitely recommend the Stillwater lodge !
