An old school SF treasure. David is a master of the dying art of clock repair.
David Smith was awesome! I needed a last minute dismantling and packing of a very old grandfather's clock that was actually my grandfather's and he was able to come all the way from San Francisco to San Jose to pack up the clock securely and safely for a cross-country move. I am so very appreciative!!!!
Mr. Smith, Did a fine job on my grandfather clock and was very personable. May want to revisit communication. I texted him the day following repair to inquire about silencing chimes due to my inability to block out from interrupting my sleep. Mr. Smith did discuss steps with me while here, but I did not remember so I reached out and although there is a 30 day warranty period he did not respond.
I've worked with David a few times over the years. He fixed an old Art Deco "Golden Hour clock years and years ago, and we had him back out subsequently to repair our grandfather clock. He was delightful and efficient on both occasions and when our grandfather clock broke last night (my fault) he came out today, a holiday, to fix it on the spot. He's very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I have two more clocks, one that needs attention, and he'll be working on that one, too. I would not be going back to him so many times if I didn't trust him and rely on his great service (and if I didn't have so many clocks !) Not only that, but he keeps such good records that when I called him last night about the grandfather clock, he remembered the Golden Hour and his past repair of our grandfather clock. That's the kind of attention that is so nice for a consumer (vs talking to a computer) Part 2 - this is the second review of David's work. Excellent, on time, and you pay what he estimates. And he did little things that were above and beyond to make my clock running absolutely perfectly. Unlike Dorian's, where he talked down his competition, charged $100 more than initially estimated, and took well over a year to fix. I would never go back to him. I prefer working with upbeat, professional people that I can refer to my friends, and know that they'll get excellent service.
