I contracted with Mike Papp to put up a section of fence in my yard along with a two-gate opening. I should have canceled him after the first day of work. One of his employees was intoxicated and as I watched them work, I realized how inept they were. Mike could not answer the simplest of questions without there being an argument. In the middle of the first work day, the two employess that were there just left with no explanation. I tried calling Mike but he did not answer. They left materials spread all over the place and my yard was a disaster. I tried calling Mike multiple times but he did not answer. After about ten phone calls the next day, someone finally showed up (smelling of booze) and they had no rhyme or reason as to what they were doing. I literally had to watch everything they did to make sure they continued to work. What should have been maybe a one day job, turned into a week of headaches. When it came to the custom built two gate opening, Mike told me he could do it with ease and had been doing so for 30 years. Sad to say that when the gates were "done", the tension rods and gates themselves were actually upside down. They would not adjust properly and the workers had to come back and correct this obvious defect. If you have been doing this for 30 years, how do you install something upside down?? It was one excuse after another with Mike. He was terrible at returning phone calls and he ARGUED about everything. The only consolation is that there is a 5 year warranty on the fence (or so I thought). I recently discovered that one of the hinges on the custom gate was pulling out of the wood and was about to fail. I called Mike who told me to call the office and set up a service call which I did. Someone came out while I was not home and the problem was not fixed. Instead, I was told that the ground was uneven and that was causing the problem with the hinge popping out. I've never heard a dumber excuse. Eventually, a worker returned while I was home and fixed the problem. It was obvious that the original installation used the WRONG screws. Like I said earlier, EVERYTHING is an argument with Mike and he defers to his "30 years of experience". Then this past weekend, I noticed that a wooden cross member on once section of fence was rotting and was breaking apart. Keep in mind the fence has only been up for 3 months at this point. Per Mike's request, I sent him photos and he replied that since those sections of fence are pre-made in Canada, he's not responsible. He offered to fix it for $50.00 and when I tried to express my displeasure, it turned into another argument. What kind of company sells substandard material like this?? The bottom line is DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are unprofessional, inept and do NOT stand up to their warranty. I regret ever using them and not cancelling them on Day 1.
