Pony Express Barn & Museum

Great little museum! The lady working was so kind and helpful. I liked the various exhibits about the Pony Express and the history of the town of Marysville. The full sized carriages, coaches, and cars were very impressive. You can't really get a good sense of scale looking at pictures in book, but being next to a large wagon wheel really puts it all in perspective how entire families would pack up their lives to go west. They also have 7 different stamps, so if you enjoy collecting National Park Passport stamps, this is a must-visit location. They also had dubious taxidermy. The bobcat alone is worth the price of admission.

Growing up outside of a town in Northeast Kansas that is on highway 36 (Hiawatha), I've been aware of the Pony Express all my life. Here certainly, though, was a huge amount of information I did not know. This former Pony Express Barn has been turned into a really good museum. The guide we had, actually ended up being two gentlemen at different points, were both very informative, friendly, and helpful. It certainly sparked a lot of imagination and curiosity among our group to learn more. The barn area is still very authentic but unfortunately no horses have been in it for a long time so no horsey smell, which I happen to love. ☺️
