**SELLERS BEWARE**
I brought in a plethora of gently-used and well-maintained consoles and games to try and get some cash, but I felt I was extremely lowballed for the quality of items I have. I assumed based on the price chart they have posted in their store that we’d get comparable pricing to that, but we were not offered anything remotely close on anything to what they advertise.
If you’re needing quick cash, this is a decent place for that. If you’re trying to get a reasonable value on your items, you’d be better off trying to sell things on Facebook Marketplace or EBay.
Really like this store, easily the best selection of Pokémon cards I’ve found outside of a huge city. They have bulk of basically every major card game which is pretty unique and they have a great novelties section as well. If you’re doing a lot of bulk searching there aren’t any chairs or anything like I’ve seen in other stores so best to do it in stints.
Let me start by saying that the employees at Play & Talk Gulfport are absolutely top-notch. You won't find a better staff anywhere; they are friendly, knowledgeable about most things ( not so much sports cards ) and always a pleasure to interact with. I'm leaving this review for the business itself, specifically regarding the sports card trade-in policy, which I believe needs a serious reevaluation.
My experience trading in cards was, to put it mildly, insulting. I am a serious card collector who spends thousands of dollars a year on this hobby. I understand the market and the value of cards. I recently brought in a collection of about 90 cards for trade. These were not random commons; they were almost exclusively rookie cards from the 2023-2025 seasons for the most valuable players in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Every card was in pristine condition, housed in penny sleeves and top loaders.
The offer I was given was incredibly low: $10 in cash, or $20 in store credit. That's a pathetic 11 cents a card for cash or 22 cents for credit. The justification was even more frustrating. I was told my cards were considered "bulk" and that some, like JJ McCarthy rookie cards, were "hard to sell" in the area. This reasoning is completely out of touch with the current card market. I had multiple rookie cards for major players like Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, Michael Penix, and Drake Maye, all of which are highly desirable.
The biggest issue for me is the hypocrisy of the valuation. I am a frequent customer and have often browsed the cards behind the showcase. I know for a fact that the very cards I was trading in would be priced at $3, $5, or even over $10 or MORE each if they were for sale in the store. This huge gap between their buy price and their sell price is what truly makes this trade-in process feel like a rip-off.
While the staff was great and never pressured me, the offer itself was so devaluing that I couldn't say no fast enough. I am not trying to damage the business, but I believe other collectors need to be aware of how their valuable cards might be treated during the trade-in process. As a result, I won't be trading in or buying sealed product from this store, it doesn't make economical sense for either.
Response:
I'm pretty shocked you guys are defending that 11-cent-per-card offer. It really shows what the business is all about. You low-ball people with a bunch of misleading talk, saying the cards are just cheap commons not worth much and won't sell.
I know for a fact that as soon as you get your hands on them, they'll be priced way higher and won't end up in any bulk bin. I've spent the last few weeks looking through your cheap section, and none of those cards are as good as the 90 cards I have. My collection includes rookie autographs, patches, and numbered parallels, so they are far from bulk.
Don't worry, I'm going to take the time to figure out the true exact value of every single card and post the results right here. If I'm wrong, I'll apologize, but I have a strong feeling I won't be.
Oh what's up with all the fake positive reviews with folks who have only 1 review and it's yours. Didn't y'all get accused of doing this in the past???
