I brought in a vintage leather purse that had a bunch of scraps and scuffs which very much looked its age. Well. When I picked it up today, it literally looked like it just came out of the showroom. I’m still in shock as to what a good job they did!! I was so happy, I emptied the purse I was carrying and handed that one over as well! (Color variation is just a function of the photo lighting!)
Due to an unfortunate interaction with an exuberant dog, my 20 year old fine shearling coat acquired an L-shaped hole in one sleeve. I brought the coat to Leather Zone, with low expectations, anticipating stitches or a conspicuous patch. They brought me in the back to show me options for a patch, and fortunately a small scrap of pigsuede from a previous job was nearly identical in color and texture. In less than a week, and for a very reasonable price, I picked up my coat with very inconspicuous matching patches on both sleeves. The stitching is identical to the other seams on the garment. Professional, precise, and perfect work! I am overjoyed that the repair is not detectable and my coat is as beautiful as ever! I will surely return to this shop for repairs to other leather goods. Thank you, LZ, for the outstanding service!
Leather Zone is a hidden gem.
I brought in two items of great sentimental value:
1. A 30 year old Coach handbag--my first "grown up bag"--that has traveled many miles and had the worn out strap to show for it.
2. A 40+ year old fur coat: a gift from my late father to my mother. It sat in a closet for almost 30 years and I wasn't sure if it was salvageable.
The staff at LZ restored the handbag to better than new-- you can't even tell that the handle was a repair and they cleaned and conditioned the rest of the bag without losing its hard-earned patina.
The coat was cleaned, conditioned, and they restyled the coat from an ankle length 1980s style to an above the knee coat that highlights the beautiful fur while creating a much more modern and wearable shape.
The work was done quickly but carefully--you can see the care and attention to detail, and the prices were significantly more reasonable than I had feared.
I'm so happy that these meaningful pieces have a new life and purpose rather than remaining in a closet or going to the landfill.
I plan to be a repeat customer--I already know that two pairs of boots will be going to them in the spring for cleaning and new soles.
It's wonderful to have a local shop that practices the almost lost art of repairing and renewing rather than facilitating a disposable culture.
I brought my husband's leather flight jacket to Leather Zone. It had many tears in the lining, and a rip in the leather in the back. The saleslady said it was going to be hard to fix.
I was surprised when I picked it up. It looked like a new jacket. Just like when it was originally purchased. My husband was very pleased as well. They did an excellent job. I highly recommend Leather Zone for all your Leather needs.
I wanted to love this place because of the great reviews. I dropped off my very rare vintage carpet bag to be cleaned and to have new handles attached. The owner, Zoe, assured me they knew how to care for that type of bag. I asked that they not rush because it’s a delicate item and specifically requested they take their time.
After about two and a half weeks, I called to see if my bag was ready, and they said yes. When I went to pick it up, I was so disappointed to see that one side of the bag seemed ruined. It looked like someone had scrubbed it, which completely destroyed the color. The color on one side looks like the darker colors bled through. I don’t even know if this is repairable. Not only that, but there was also a hole in the lining, which they later attempted to repair, even after I had explicitly asked them not to touch the bag until the owner returned from being out of town.
I understand that mistakes happen, and I was more than willing to let them fix it. The first woman I spoke to was incredibly kind and patient. However, when I finally spoke with the owner, Zoe, she refused to admit they had done anything wrong. She repeatedly interrupted me, dismissed my concerns, and insisted her family had done this kind of work for generations.
What was really odd was that when I told her I was at work and feeling stressed by the conversation, and asked her to please lower her voice, she mimicked me and said, “I’m in the office and you’re stressing me out, please stop yelling at me,” while practically yelling herself. She continued to downplay my concerns, told me to calm down, and accused me of overreacting. I asked to speak with someone else, since we clearly weren’t communicating well, but she ignored me and continued loudly talking about her family history.
Eventually, I got through to her that I had pictures of my bag before they damaged it. She kept insisting the bag looked “beautiful” and that the work was “beautiful.” After I sent her the before-and-after photos, she replied with an image of the poor repair job to the lining, despite my explicit request that no repairs be made until I had spoken with her.
I left work early because the whole experience made me feel they would further destroy it. I had to ask her around five times that I just wanted to pay for the handles and leave. She kept insisting the work was good, and then went further to say I was trying to ruin her business. This was the worst money I’ve ever spent.
This whole experience was awful. I had really hoped to find a nice local place to bring my bags, but sadly, this wasn’t it.
