Last Wind-Up

Don't trust your local store? They tell you they can't do the job? (good on them) Take it (or ship it) to Dave at The Last Windup in Bozeman. Not only is he one of the coolest guys around, he knows his stuff and his crew does excellent work. As a curiously destructive child I took the back off of my dad's pocket watch and tried to figure out how it worked, in the process destroying the hairspring and other components. Not being from major manufacturer or of anything of secondary market value, other repair shops either couldn't fix it or weren't interested. A friend recommended I send it to Dave and he fixed it good as new at a fair price.

I was only going to buy one, you see, a pocket watch. In honor of my time on earth and on early trains. Where conductors carried pocket watches and cried, “Board.” I now have three. In honor of travel from Attalla, Alabama to Chattanooga, to Chicago, to New York City. Beautiful pocket watches. All of which run, telling current time and reminding me of other times. The people of The Last Windup have been very patient and helpful. I will wear their ball cap. Board!

This is a wonderful little shop. As someone who loves watches, I’m probably biased but between the old mantle clocks, cuckoo clocks, pocket watches, cool pocket knives from Montana and Idaho and vintage and new watches, it’s worth a trip even if you aren’t super into them. The owner was very nice, incredibly knowledgeable and I’m so glad I had time to stop in today. Been meaning to for awhile. I’m unsurprised the reviews are universally positive.
