We had dinner here after a day of hiking, and it was fabulous! The food was fantastic, and we were served quickly. Our waiter was friendly and did an excellent job! We are sad that we live in North Carolina so can’t visit frequently. Highly recommend Gus’ BBQ!
This little place is a gem. The food and bbq were great. The drink menu was not up to date so that was a little disappointing. However, they still had some local drink options. They also brought out warm home made chocolate chip cookies for us!
I thought with a name using open pit BBQ that I would smell it before the door or when I opened the door, I didn't. We got the 3 piece sampler. It was ribs, tri tips, and pulled pork.
Ribs - dry and over cooked. When the bone crumbles, it's overcooked.
Pulled pork - very plain. No smoke flavor and had no seasoning taste from the rub.
Tri tips - must be their version of a brisket. No real flavor and the bark didn't even have flavor.
We also got grilled vegetables. I'm got sure they never saw a grill. Maybe a frying pan.
I sampled the beans, they shouldn't taste like chili. Simple brown sugar, molasses, and a little pulled pork could turn those around.
I know BBQ is different everywhere, but there is at least a standard that everyone needs to meet in order to be called a BBQ restaurant.
Best advice, visit Virginia, Texas, and Georgia.
Tried the Ribs and the pulled pork. Both tasted really good! Staff was really friendly. Its probably one of the few places which are open late night as well. We went there at 8.30 pm. They've got seating at both the floors, so don't think you will ever be asked to wait
