Rather it was as described: walked in, no response, looked at bags, was walking to different corner so as to not interrupt, was then curtly prompted with can I help you (subtext, please leave). Anyway, should have read the other reviews. Owner obviously has an attitude problem. If you are looking for customer service, go to literally any other place that sells camera equipment or camera adjacent equipment for that matter. The person working was helping another customer when I came in to ask about film SLR cleaning and a hard case for my point and shoot camera. The worker paused speaking to the other person and with visible annoyance asked if they could do anything for me. I asked about the cleaning and was quickly told to ask a different shop and for the cases was just pointed to the corner I was already looking and told that’s all they had. Overall not helpful or enjoyable. I’ve made an effort to support local shops but I’d honestly rather not be treated rudely and just shop blick, KEH, or B&H

I went in looking for film for a project my father and I were working on while I was in town, modifying a dead format Poloroid to take 120mm film. After breifly explaining the project, Art, the owner, was able to offer some expired film, which was perfect for testing the set up out so we don't burn too much money in the case it doesn't work. I also bought another roll of film, in case it does work. Long story short--there are negative reviews, but if you go in knowing what you want/the basics, Art is very helpful and it is a very cool store.

I came in to the abq location to look for a camera for my wife. I left the store utterly baffled as to why this interaction went the way it did. Now I quite admittedly don’t know much about photography and I know even less about shooting film, so maybe I was waiting their time. From the moment I walked in I felt unwelcome. The gentleman who “helped” me behind the counter made me feel like I was wasting his time at every turn. Again maybe I should have had some more info before coming in but I do not understand why I was treated the way I was.

I visited the store with a frustrating issue: an assumed stuck all-thread bolt in my ball head, preventing me from mounting it on another tripod. Art listened patiently as I fumbled through explaining the problem, unsure of the exact details on how to remove the thread. His genuine concern and non-condescending demeanor immediately put me at ease, making me feel valued as a customer, regardless of my uncertainty. Art’s expertise shone through as he quickly assessed the situation. With over 50 years of experience, he approached the task with confidence and care, applying tape to protect the ball head’s finish before skillfully using large pliers to release the base. The issue was resolved in no time, and my ball head was ready to mount on my tripod. His attention to detail and professionalism were truly impressive. What made the experience even more enjoyable were the stories Art shared while working. His anecdotes about the local photography business and his humorous takes on absurd manufacturer marketing—like “digital tripods” and exaggerated ball head weight tolerances—were both entertaining and insightful. It’s clear Art has a deep passion for photography and a wealth of knowledge to share. Albuquerque Camera & Darkroom, with Art at the helm, is a gem for anyone needing camera or film developing services. I highly recommend patronizing this store for their top-notch expertise, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!
