Had a great experience with this place. I brought in a pair of old loafers that were falling apart. I really did not want to part ways with them as I fell in love with the shape and color of the shoe. Owner reinforced the sole making it look just like new. Would highly recommend.
The shoemaker is very nice and friendly. I always go to him to repair my shoes and heels, and he does an excellent job every time. He only accepts cash, but it’s worth it because you can count on quality work and fair prices.
He’s good at cleanings but don’t pay him until you check EVERYTHING! He can’t do leather repair well so don’t even bring them to him for that. I paid $95 for 4 pairs of shoes and was only happy and noticed a difference on 1 pair. I asked for inside repair and when I was disappointed he said he still had to charge me for waterproofing? Which I never asked for and there’s also no refunds. The photo I attached is my “finished” and “repaired” boot he did.
Dmitri is wonderful! So friendly, sweet and charming. I went here on a whim because a leather watch band needed another hole but I didn't have the necessary tools on hand to punch one. Dmitri did it with ease and then tried to not charge me, I couldn't accept that so I paid him what I felt was fair for his time and work, and he was so appreciative. I will be going to him for any future leather or shoe work I need done!
About 50 years ago, my father gave me a gift of Land luggage, a soft sided suitcase (which I cherish and use) and a shoulder bag. Many years ago, the strap attachment on the shoulder bag broke. I had it repaired back whereI lived; they used an odd piece of leather, and it didn’t hold up more than a few years and so for decades, it has languished, but has been cherished in my memory. I read a review of (Dmitri)’s work recently at West Hartford Shoe Repair and have been carrying the bag around in my car. I stopped in just yesterday, August 22. He looked at it and noted all the things that needed to be done and told me that he could do them and asked if I also wanted it cleaned up. I said “yes!”and probably less than 24 hours later, he called to tell me everything was done. The leather is cleaned up and polished, all of the zippers and attachments are secure, and the attachment is indistinguishable in terms of style from the original. This is amazing work(I remember reading John Galsworthy’s short story “Quality“ when I was in high school and was struck by the description of a shoemaker who is so dedicated to his work and created works of art. That seems to be Dmitri here, but hopefully he continues to be able to do this. I hope this comes across as a rave because that’s what he deserves. What I read here led me to him and I hope my review leads others to him as well. Just remember to drive all the way around and in back. Online Google maps shows it vaguely as sometimes number 15, which looks like it’s a closed door on the side of the building. Luckily, as I was leaving to drive away, I saw someone walking to their car. He directed me around to the back and there was the business (15-A!)! We are lucky to have him here in town!!!
