We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom that compromised the ceiling in our living room. Travis and Jacob arrived promptly and outlined the process that was going to take place. They carefully moved and covered furniture to protect it from drywall dust. The dehumidifier and mold mitigation will prevent mold from occurring. They were both courteous, friendly and professional.
We had a water leak on 12/28/25. The company came out that day to evaluate.
The next several days were devoted to mitigation. Demo occurred on Friday 1/2/26. I was told bthat by mid week the next week (by 1/7/26), the equipment would be removed.
After that, there was a considerable delay. During this time, the drying equipment was operating at full blast. I was sure everything was dried out and wondered why the equipment had not been turned off and removed. I finally called the company on 1/15/26, who said that Restoration 1 had forwarded the estimate (mitigation and abatement) to the adjuster. He also volunteered that asbestos abatement was standing by, and was ready to do their work, which should only take a day or two.
However, I called the adjuster myself that day, who said that he had received no estimates and no asbestos testing results. So I had to call the Restoration 1 office to advise them of that. More delay.
The adjuster advised me on 1/28/25 that the abatement had been approved. I would expect that the office would be checking in with the adjuster regularly about this, but it took me telling then myself on 2/3/26. This was another week's delay. The abatement was just completed (2/18/26).
I had an insurance reimbursement check ffor the abatement on 2/6/26. But the company said we couldn't move forward with getting the abatement done until there was agreement on the mitigation bill, which was a real head scratcher.
I think any disinterested observer would agree that given how all this has played out, 7 weeks was far too long for what actually got accomplished (mitigation and abatement) with rebuild still to come.
My complaints about thecompany are as follows:
*Very slow progress toward resolution of the problem, with demonstrable delays of at least 3 weeks attributable to you
*Very poor information flow from your company, with the homeowner being forced to be the communicator between the adjuster and the restoration company
*Unwillingness to do the abatement unless mitigation was fully paid for, even when the estimate for abatement had been agreed to and I had the funds in hand.
Keith came out to evaluate the property to provide an estimate for mold remediation. He was very professional and helpful to answer all my questions. I felt confident that he had our best interests in mind. Based on my experiences communicating with Dawn and Keith, I would definitely recommend Restoration1 of Durham-Greensboro. They always followed through with answers, timely in their responses and I really feel like they care about the people with are working with and talking to.
