Great experience. Brought in boots and a belt. Needed boots Re-soled and belt sewn. A week later both were done. Quality work for sure! It appears to be a dying craft so we are fortunate to have him in Frederick! Thanks, once again, my favorite boots are comfortable!
Absolutely fantastic job restoring my $500 Frye boots. I forgot to take good before and after pics because I immediately started wearing my boots again. They replaced the sole for a sturdy tread and my heel which I ground to a nub. They also replaced my left boot strap that another cobbler had attempted to replace but had done a less than ideal job(holes were not aligned and strap was noticeably unevenly cut). Fantastic work! I think total cost was around $100 - deff worth it because I had requested a lot done and thicker replacements parts, most thankful for the replaced strap of the replacement strap bc the work done prior from a diff cobbl... DO NOT take your shoes or footwear to Quality Shoe Repair in Frederick for service or repair. They are anything but "quality". In February, I took a pair of Matterhorn combat boots that I've had for nearly 25 yrs to this shop to get them re-soled. This was the first time I had ever been to this shop. Never used their services before. The original vibram soles were still on the boots, but after nearly a quarter century, they needed to be redone. The boots were otherwise still completely serviceable and worthy of repair. Quality Shoe absolutely botched the re-sole job, and after paying well over $100 to re-sole these boots, I got them back and... Quality Shoe absolutely botched the re-sole job, and after paying well over $100 to re-sole these boots, I got them back and wore them to cut up a downed tree on my property, and the sole on the left boot immediately started to come apart at the toe. I took the boots back to Quality Shoe to point out the issue and have them fix it. The guy took them back and said he could fix them, but what I got back from them days later was even worse than before. He tried to hand stitch the sole at the toes along with some sort of messy epoxy, and on top of it, he put some sort of terribly cut and applied rubber strip on each boot toe that looked just terrible. The "quality" of these repairs was amateurish at best. Not the kind of work that an experienced shoe repair craftsman would do. I was very disappointed. I took my boots back from them and left. After leaving, I reached back out to them regarding all of this as I was pretty unhappy about the work they did on my boots. I spoke to them the next morning on the phone and the guy definitely had an attitude, which is mentioned in other reviews for this shop. I told him I was unhappy with all of this and he wanted me to bring the boots back for yet a 3rd time... Folks, a quality craftsman does the job right the first time. Not three times. I had no intention of bringing the boots back to them for yet a third time. I took the boots as they were to another shoe repair shop in another county, and the repair person there stated that in the 45 yrs they have been in the business, they "had never seen anything like this" and said the work was completely wrong, and probably ruined the boots, making them impossible to fix or re-sole. They would have to look further into it before they knew for sure if they were able to be saved or not. Quality Shoe used brad nails that I was told were incorrect and applied terribly. The stitching on the toes was incorrect and also done terribly, and the rubber strips on the toes was ridiculous and done terribly as well, with an epoxy or glue that could have ruined the boots and materials making them unrepairable according to the other shop. Again, these were well used but otherwise completely serviceable boots that I've had for nearly 25 yrs that were now ruined because of Quality Shoe Repair in Frederick. Thankfully the other shoe repair place was able to completely redo the boots and repair them the right way. A very professional job. I took the boots back to Quality Shoe Repair and asked for my money back from them and showed them the boots and how they had been repaired by the other place. I was immediately met with attitude and told that they asked for me to bring the boots back (for a 3rd time) for them to fix. I told them again that I wasn't going to bring the boots back a third time when the job should've been done right the first time. The lady at the desk took offense at the fact that I took issue with the work that they did and would not do the right thing and give an unhappy customer their money back for a very subpar boot repair (that they had 2 shots at and asked for a third) After over a month of trying to get my boots handled and having to pay yet another shop to fix a bad job that should have been done right the first time, I cannot say that I would recommend Quality Shoe Repair to anyone at all.
