BE AWARE! We recently stopped for lunch to try Ox Yoke Inn for the first time. The food was outstanding and the waitress was wonderful. We left excited to return and bring others. We later noticed a charge on our receipt of $12.99 for a 'side dish plate' that we didn't recognize and called thinking it must have been a mistake. Our positive experience quickly turned sour when speaking to a woman named Kathy who curtly and unapologetically stated that this fee was on the menu and that even if I had ordered the entree on my own and allowed anyone else to even have one bite, (she was very specific and it was confirmed by another person working there named Laney that they do watch all patrons for this), that we would have been charged. It is true that on the bottom of the menu there is language that says "side dish plate" for $12.99 with shared entree. However, when I noted that we never looked beyond the entree we chose and wouldn't have understood that this meant we were getting charged for sharing because we weren't ordering an additional 'side dish plate', she very quickly said she refused to argue with me. We've shared a meal before and encountered restaurants that charge a nominal fee for sharing a meal, but generally this is well understood when ordering. It's rare for us to leave a poor review and difficult in this case because the food and our waitress were so outstanding, but it deserves to be out there for others to read that this fee exists in case they don't catch it on the menu and according to their own employee, they are diligently watching people. We thought there had simply been a mistake on our bill and it was a true disappointment to have such a negative interaction when trying to understand what happened.
