Happy Smiles
The only positive is that this place has a nice collection of guitars. The negative: I came in and saw a nice guitar, but I noticed that the action on the strings was way too high. I told Jay who agreed and even stated that there was something with the neck and said he would fix it and would call when ready. He called and said the guitar was ready. Now, when I was playing, the song I practiced with uses the heavier strings (E, A, D), so I didn't notice much issue. I assumed it was fixed, so I bought it. When I got home and played a song that focuses on the higher strings (G, B, E) I noticed that the action was still too high. I went back and told Jay. He at first tried to claim that the guitar is supposed to play that way. I pointed out that the slots in the nut were not cut correctly and showed him. He then reluctantly agreed to fix the nut. Now, he did not sound confident about it, so I changed my mind and took my guitar to a luthier I knew. Just as I suspected, he told me that the slots on the nut were not cut correctly, and he fixed it for me. Now I'm shredding like crazy on my guitar! :-) So either Jay didn't bother to check the guitar before agreeing to buy it from the previous owner, or he didn't care and was hoping that the customer would not catch on. Either way, that's irresponsible and unprofessional. I recommend that if you are going to get into collecting/playing guitar, you familiarize yourself with the parts of a guitar and make friends with ethical luthiers. Otherwise, you're going to get ripped off by guys like Jay who will smile in your face with a knife behind his back.
