Great shop. I live in Indiana and wanted an inspection of a used van in Connecticut before I purchased it. They worked with me to schedule an inspection on short notice. After putting the vehicle on a lift Dave showed me items he inspected item by item. They didn't even charge me because the vehicle was in almost pristine condition.
Came here for my emissions around 11. Everyone inside was courteous and friendly. They told me to just get in line (very clear sinage) and its about 5 minutes per car. Thats seemed to be very accurate as there were 3 cars in front of me and I was gone in 20mins. Going to come here for my next emissions.
π€·πΎ Unfortunately, my first and last experience with Model Garage in Waterbury, CT, left much to be desired. I was seeking a garage to address some minor issues with my classic 27-year-old Mercedes ML 320, which I had recently purchased with very low mileage. Initially, I thought I needed a simple window motor replacement, based on advice from a mechanic in New Jersey. I had a 7:30 AM appointment on September 30, 2025, and dropped off my vehicle, expecting to pick it up in the afternoon. I also requested a light bulb and oil/filter change. Later that day, I received a call saying that they needed to order the window motor. I assumed they had double-checked the diagnosis. Since it wasnβt a major issue, I paid for the parts and services, planning to return in a few days due to upcoming travel. I returned on October 7th at 7:30 AM to drop off my car again. A couple of hours later, I was informed that the problem wasnβt with the window motor after all; it was a control panel issue, which would cost around $500. While I was still okay with the diagnosis, I pointed out that since the window motor they had ordered was untouched and unnecessary, I should receive credit for the unneeded part. The mechanic became rude, stating, βI donβt return parts to my distribution,β insisting I would have to pay for the unused part. I was taken aback; I had never authorized work on parts I didnβt need. To my dismay, the mechanic refused to proceed with the confirmed necessary work simply because I questioned the charge for the unused part. This experience raised significant concerns about their integrity and customer relationships. In the end, I did receive a refund for the part cost, but the mechanic's arrogant refusal to complete the required work was disappointing. He claimed we were arguing, but I can confirm that there was no raised voice, as I had someone with me who can attest to that. In 2025, businesses should prioritize integrity and respect. I would not recommend Model Garage if you're looking for honesty and transparency in your automotive service.
