I’ve had positive experiences with Mike’s in the past, which is why I didn’t hesitate to reach out to them first when I needed help with an overheating issue I’ve been dealing with for over a year. After a quick conversation, they suggested the problem could stem from either the radiator or the water pump. I went ahead and purchased both parts myself. A friend offered to help with the repairs, and while he was able to install the radiator, he had to leave due to an emergency before completing the job. I explained this situation to the shop and let them know I needed the remaining plastic components secured and the new water pump installed. I also told them the parts were in the trunk. I had scheduled the appointment about a month in advance for a Thursday, and dropped the car off the night before. When I called Friday to check in, I was told the vehicle hadn’t been touched and the work would be pushed to Monday. There also seemed to be some confusion about what I meant by “tightening things up,” so I clarified the story again and reiterated what needed to be done. At that point, I was given a quote of around $750, which included the water pump installation and potentially the reassembly of the plastic components. I received a call Monday evening stating there would be an additional $400 charge just to reinstall those plastic parts. The explanation over the phone was vague and left me confused about what exactly I was being charged for. When I picked up the car, I realized all they had done was install the new water pump. The plastic pieces were still in the back of the car, untouched. I was told reattaching them would take at least four hours, which doesn’t align with my experience—my friend was able to remove them in about 10 minutes, and they simply snap back into place. Unfortunately, this experience left me disappointed and questioning the fairness of the additional labor estimate. I’ve attached photos showing the parts in question, for reference. Based on this, I don’t plan to return in the future.
