I am extremely displeased with my recent experience at this Metro by T-Mobile location in Virginia. A few weeks ago, I went to the store after being told by two previous employees — a Caucasian lady and gentleman — that I qualified for a free phone with a new line. When I arrived, two younger female employees (appearing to be Hispanic or Latina, early 20s) told me I could only receive the free phone if I purchased additional accessories, including headphones, a portable charger, and another device. When I questioned this and asked them to call their manager, one of them flat-out said “no” and refused. The second employee seemed unsure, but the first overrode her. I waited about five minutes and calmly explained that forcing accessory purchases as a condition for receiving an advertised free phone is illegal in Virginia. Only then did one of the employees reluctantly call someone who claimed to be a manager. Over the phone, this supposed “manager” stated the same thing — that requiring the accessory purchase was allowed. However, this practice clearly violates Virginia law, including § 59.1-200 of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits advertising goods under certain terms and then refusing to honor those terms, and § 18.2-217 of the Virginia Code, which makes it unlawful to advertise merchandise for sale with intent not to sell at the advertised price or terms. The FTC also identifies this as “tied selling,” a deceptive trade practice where a customer is forced to buy one product to receive another. I have the entire interaction recorded for evidence. The store’s conduct was deceptive, dismissive, and unprofessional. This situation should have been escalated immediately, yet the staff deliberately refused to involve a manager until pressured, and even then doubled down on an unlawful policy. I’m deeply disappointed and considering further action unless Metro PCS or T-Mobile corporate resolves this issue. I have every right to share my experience publicly — and I will, if needed. Consumers deserve honesty, not manipulation, and I will not be silent about a clear violation of Virginia consumer law.

They refused to honor my free phone upgrade that I am eligible to receive from Metro PCS. The in-store representative said I had to buy a new phone or switch to T-Mobile. I called 611 and they stated that I could only redeem the phone upgrade in-store. The store is scamming by not providing the phone upgrade!!!!

This place is under investigation with corporate. The cashier picked out and made me pay for a phone case that I didn't want. Stating that she couldn't sale me a phone without me purchasing the case per company policy. I've never heard of anything like that. I also called around to other stores and none of them have that policy. I also called customer service and spoke to supervisor and they also said that it was not in any policy nor can one store make their own policies when purchasing phones. My thing is she didn't disclose that policy at any time during the purchase. I really thought the case was free because she didn't ask me to pick out a case. She grabbed the most expensive one. This was fraud and they are being investigated as we speak. DONT TRUST THIS STORE
