Jay helped me with a non-traditional hearth & tiny stove installation. He was absolutely fantastic to work with--knowledgeable, hard working, and communicative, with a keen eye for safety, creativity, and quality. The final product was beautiful and better than I could have ever imagined. We are VERY lucky to have him in Durango, and I will definitely be calling him for all of my future stove needs.
I hired LaPlataChimney and Fireplace, Jay Bakelaar, to remove my existing older wood stove and chimney, then to install a new KUMA wood stove and chimney in a different location of our living room. From initial site visit to proposal (bid), to contract, and throughout the project Jay was a professional. His communication was great, he kept a clean job site, and worked hard. His attention to detail was exemplary and I really appreciate his suggestion to add the combustion air kit. I just fired the KUMA for the 1st time last night and the stove is a marvel of modern combustion, while the new chimney drafted well. Great Work and Thanks, Gregg Dubit

Jay was very thorough (even took pictures of before and after). Our chimney was the cleanest it's ever been. Reasonable price especially compared to the competition. We'll be having him come back next year!!
