I contacted Freedom Sweep Chimney Service in July. The first red flag was that he never showed up for the consultation appointment, and despite multiple unanswered calls and texts the morning of, he called as if there was no issue the next day and claimed I had the date wrong. So I took off work for the original appointment, and then had to leave early the next day. But, I decided sometimes things happen, so I'll still give him a chance. Now, I needed chimney work as a condition of my home insurance. It really wasn't in the budget for me, but I needed it done right away. I explained the situation and let the owner know that I needed the work done as soon as possible for my insurance. He assured me that he's booked up, but works with insurance companies all of the time and a contract for service would be just fine to give to insurance. So I was convinced to sign a $7,000 contract, to which my insurance company didn't accept, and I was canceled anyway, but locked into a contract I couldn't afford. Every single time he said he was going to show up, there was a problem. Either the job before me took longer, or there was a weather issue. Yet every time he or his employees were on my property, they were inside for less than a half hour. I had to constantly rearrange my schedule on short notice, and each time had to confirm for myself whether or not someone was going to show up because he was very unclear. Long story short, I paid in full prior to the job's completion, because the owner was nice and I was naive. I have reached out no less than 5 times, and have been 'ghosted' at this point. My fireplace (that no longer works) is still open, my chimneys are still deteriorating inside my home, and the paint that he applied to my exterior chimney began chipping the week it was applied. We spoke in person about how to rectify these issues at least twice. I have never received a formal "paid" invoice, and never received the fire certifications that I paid for. I would not recommend this company at all. I'm now considering whether to consult an attorney or just pay someone else to finish the job, because it's clear that this company is not going to since they're already been paid. The fact of the matter is, the owner will always speak about how "busy" he is as an excuse, but he over books and under delivers at the customer's expense. I will also be filing my experience with the Better Business Bureau.
