I felt I needed to leave a review based on some of the negative reviews here. I hired the Evergreen crew to fully scrape and repaint a wood-sided 1920's two-story colonial revival that probably hadn't been scraped since the 50's. It was a big job and they took it on professionally and thoroughly. They arrived in the morning and the job was finished within the window they quoted. They cleaned up after themselves as well as they reasonably could each day but when the job was done everything was fully cleaned up and disposed of. I had no problems with them whatsoever. I trusted them to arrive, work as much as made sense that day, and finish the job well and on time and they did. I didn't try to micromanage them and left them to do their jobs and I got a good and timely result.
I purchased a home which needed a laundry list of work. From plumbing to electrical to cabinetry to roofing to windows. On and on. Evergreen Painting has been my best experience with home improvements to date. They did an excellent job completing the exterior painting of my home. I highly recommend them. They're professional, timely and accurate in their quote, completion time and amount of paint needed. Left no mess behind. Couldn't even tell they had been there other than my house looked beautiful! I truly can't say enough good things! I have zero complaints. Give them a try! Thank you Evergreen Painting and Construction!!
Overall they did a decent job. Hopefully this pros and cons list I put together will help you make your decision on whether to use this company.
Pros:
- The head office, is super quick to get back to you. After dealing with no-call-back contractors for almost two weeks it was really refreshing to have a company be on top of it with getting back to you. They were even responding to emails after 10pm.
- Moving to the area from the east side of Detroit had its own complications, but the head office worked with us a lot on timing and availability. There was no headache on our end for the quote and getting started.
- Their prices were more than fair, even with us buying our own paint.
- The work they did in our entryway was phenomenal. We have really high ceilings and a very high up window that needed the trim painted. Kudos to the guy who went up on the ladder and did a fantastic job. He really knocked it out of the park.
- They cleaned up their tools after themselves really well. I didn't find paint in any of my sinks or anything like that.
- When I alerted the main office on the issues we had with the one contractor (see cons below) they were super attentive and wanted to do what they could to make it right, however at the end of it that fell a little short (see wash section below).
Cons:
- Everyday we had a new subset of people come to the house. Which normally wouldn't have mattered but each day I had to explain to each new team what it is we paid for and what still needed to be painted.
- Their workers are hit or miss. A couple of the guys did a fantastic job. Asked questions when they were unsure, double checked that we were happy with the job they did for the day. However with great people also comes people who aren't so great. One worker spilled paint on our carpet, painted trim in two rooms that weren't in our agreement, and painted part of our counter, which I specifically told them not to paint.
- To fix the counter we had found some extra trim left over in the garage from the previous owners, and all they had to do was cut it and put it on. They put one piece on but not the other. The longer peice didn't even get cut to the right size for us to easily put it on ourselves.
- I was really surprised they didn't double check their own work. There were several areas that needed touch-ups that I had to point out that were more than obvious. Even some of the touch-ups on the ceiling that I pointed out never got fixed. By the time they got to the touch-ups it was past 6 on a Friday and they didn't want to come back another day for a handful of touch ups... So they just didn't get done. In fairness, the ceiling has a weird curve and there are some shadows that are a bit tricky, but I'm surprised they didn't do their own sort of inspection on the ceiling or any of the other places they painted to make sure.
Wash:
- Rather than clean the carpets they gave me a discount on my overall price. The man I talked to said he wouldn't be sure they could get the paint out of the carpet... We were surprised they weren't more prepared for paint spills, as this can't be the first time someone spilled paint. We took the discount because by this time I just needed my house back.
- Nothing got done about the extra trim that was painted. Where guests will see, the trim is not fully painted, so its a bit weird. Not sure what I expected them to do about it though.
- Like most contractors they just kind of showed up whenever was convenient for them. Made it very difficult for us to be able to run some of our errands or do some other things when we weren't exactly sure when they were going to show up.
- We bought our own paint, but wasn't given a whole lot of direction on how much to buy. Since they knew the dimensions of each room, I made the assumption they would be able to give us some better direction. They didn't, and now we have numerous cans of extra (unopened) paint.
