Mark Pluijmen and the folks at Dutch Masonry were a tremendous help as we prepared to open our new pizzeria - we couldn’t thank them enough! We had taken over a space with an existing wood-fired pizza oven which, unbeknownst to us, was too badly damaged to work long-term for our busy restaurant. Mark examined the oven, and pointed out the damaged areas where firebricks had come loose from the interior dome. Mark then wrote an excellent letter to our landlord explaining that when bricks come loose from an oven dome, the dome becomes structurally unstable and cannot be repaired without rebuilding the entire fire box. This letter helped us to renegotiate our lease terms in order to cover the cost of the oven replacement. Mark then helped us with the process of removing the old oven and installing the replacement oven. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would highly recommend working with Mark and his team. I found Mark, owner of Dutch Masonry, after getting quotes from other chimney companies and being shocked as to the price and the short time period of guarantee of their craftsmanship. I felt I was being price gouged. I kept on my search to see if there was a true craftsman who simply stood behind his work for more than 10 years and wasn't just trying to make a quick buck. We hired Dutch Masonry (Mark) to help us with our 90+ year old fireplace where weather and time (and maybe lack of maintenance) took its toll on the brick and mortar. We talked to three other contractors before I chose Dutch Masonry. After I met Mark, and his labs, I knew that he was the one for the job. Our fireplace needed to be rebuilt from the covered deck upward and within guidelines (as it was in a historical district). He found some dry rot behind the fireplace, communicated promptly, and was able to make repairs. He was very easy to communicate with and informed me of the progress along the way. He completed the job on time as projected. More importantly, upon seeing the work it is beautiful. We cannot wait to use the fireplace!! I would highly recommend Mark for your masonry work.
