Clocks Unlimited

It is with some regret that we post this rating regarding Clocks Unlimited and Drew Tally of North Hampton, NH. We were simply going to put our experience with Drew in the past until reading his attack on Meg accusing her of trying to harm his business. We know that he may very well respond to this review similarly. However, because we did and will continue to act in a businesslike manner, we will take that chance and report here ONLY the FACTS supporting our recommendation that you should take your clock with a windup mechanism to someone else for repair. We brought our Herman Miller chiming wall clock in to Drew. He looked at it and said that the works needed to be replaced. We gave Drew a deposit and left the clock with him. Subsequently, Drew advised us that the clockworks for our Herman Miller was no longer being manufactured and that the ONLY OPTION was to replace the mechanism with a battery-operated quartz movement. He further stated that, other than needing to replace a battery on an annual basis and losing the windup feature, our clock WOULD FUNCTION AND SOUND JUST AS IT HAD IN THE PAST. After discussion with him, we gave him the go-ahead to perform the work. Drew called us later that evening from what appeared to be a personal phone number; told my husband that we were harassing him; and that he did not want to work on our clock and hung up the phone abruptly. The next day, we picked up our clock and received a refund of the deposit. We independently located another clock repairer. He concurred with Drew that the first thing to do would be to replace the works. However, if that could not be done, there were OTHER THINGS to talk about. After confirming the original works were no longer available, he told us that we DO NOT WANT TO PUT A BATTERY-OPERATED QUARATZ MOVEMENT into the clock because IT WOULD NOT OPERATE OR SOUND THE SAME! He carefully examined the clockworks, found the bushings were good, and stated that SIMPLY PERFORMING MAINTENANCE, i.e. cleaning and oiling the works, would restore the clock back to ITS WORKING CONDITION costing us a SMALL FRACTION OF THE PRICE QUOTED BY DREW. Based upon our experience, we would not recommend Clocks Unlimited and Drew Tally to anyone we know. Michael and Chery R. I just read Drew's rebuttal. Of course he calls me a liar. Let me tell you I stated ONLY facts. We had our clock repaired by a horogist trained in Lancaster County PA. It is in original working condition and cost only $200. Ask Drew about his training. The person who repaired our family clock treated it like it was a child. He also said you should NEVER replace an original movement with a quartz movement. You decide who you want to work on your clock.
