My name is Engin Çalboga. On Monday, I liked and bought a wedding ring, and they told me it would be ready by Wednesday. I made plans accordingly. I spoke to my girlfriend's manager and got her permission. I made reservations, bought flowers, rented a car, and things like that without her knowledge. But on Wednesday, they messaged me saying it wasn't ready and that it would be ready by Thursday morning. I didn't go to work on Wednesday, and neither did my girlfriend. I couldn't go to work on Thursday either because they only made it ready at 3 pm. I had prepared so much for this, and everything went to waste. I'm very upset. Finally, when I went to pick up an order on Thursday, the boss's sister was very rude to me. I told her to understand me, but she didn't try at all. My monthly income is approximately $3000, and I gave her about two months' salary. I was wronged, and on top of that, she spoke to me harshly and without understanding. This was a meaningful day for me, and I was so upset and cried so much that it lost all meaning for me. Please be kind to people and try to understand their situation. I haven't left any comments anywhere until now. I didn't write it, but I left a review because it made me cry today, and I said I'd leave a review when I left the shop, and he disrespectfully said, "Please do, don't forget." That really, really upset me.
Update: 5 star service again. This is the only jeweler I trust with my sentimental pieces. They suggested a new upgraded setting for my engagement ring, and it is perfect! They completed the work quickly, and im in love with it. Thank you so much!!
Original review:
This was one of the best jewelry store experiences I've had. They made me feel welcome, and they were VERY quick, professional, and pleasant to work with. I came in at the last minute to get my rings inspected and cleaned before my wedding. I wasn't a regular customer, but they took care of me. They shined my rings up so nicely that I couldn't even see the small scratches that I had put on them previously. They look brand new. I'll definitely be a returning customer, and I'll be recommending them to all my friends.
TLDR: only come here if you are okay with disappointment
Some back story:
This ring has been in my family for about 20 years. When I was a child, my parents took my brother & I to one of those gem mining places in the Appalachians. I found a huge topaz and it made our whole trip so special, to come away with a "find" - which are the stones from the ring in question. My parents designed the setting together, and all stones on the ring were cut from the one topaz that I found. My mother wore the ring constantly, and when I graduated from college she gifted it to me because she knew how much I loved it. Fast forward to now, the ring is a beautiful momento of my parents - who are no longer in my life.
The experience:
I came into Brentwood Jewelry at the end of August with one simple request: to have them resize a ring.
9/10 I picked up the ring after they finished the sizing.
I wore the ring out for the first time, a dinner, on 9/13. Right after the entree plates were cleared, I noticed the ring was missing stones. I was devastated, but able to find one of the stones on the table. We concluded that the second one must have fell onto a dinner plate, and was lost to us.
I called on 9/15 and explained what happened - that the ring had no issues of stones falling out during its 20-year history, but after being resized, the stones fell out during the first wear. I was told to bring it in and they'd find a solution.
I bring the ring in on 9/16 and express my sadness and frustration about what happened. While this ring does not cost much to some, there is SO MUCH sentimental value tied to it. The sales associate noticed that the middle stone was loose in the setting as well, and came to the conclusion that the due diligence needed after the ring was resized was not done - as the stones should have been tightened after the resize. The fact that the middle stone was loose in the setting showed it was not. They assured me they would take care of it.
I called on 10/1 to inquire after the ring as I had not received an update. I was informed that they FORGOT to send my ring out, even though it'd been in their possession for two weeks.
10/6, received another call about the ring, they forgot to send it out again
10/15 they called saying he had issues with finding the right stone, but I should be able to pick it up by that Friday.
10/17 text to come pick up
I can only describe how I felt after seeing the ring as just pure grief. Not only was the color incorrect, but the stones were bigger on the replacement side.
When I explained my frustrations, I was gaslit by those working there. I understand the stone may have a slight color variance as the color is acquired via heat, but when you are tasked with replacing a BLUE stone and provide GREEN, that is unacceptable. It was also obvious that they replaced both stones on that side, not just the one. If they replaced only ONE stone, then those two stones should be different in color, not the exact SAME, as they were from two different rocks. They repeatedly talked over me and told me that what I was seeing with my own two eyes was not correct. The two added stones were also bigger than their counterparts on the other side - which made the ring look lopsided and bulging.
Their remedy for ruining my ring? I can take it somewhere else, and they (Brentwood Jewelry) will cover the costs of repair - which is exactly what I will do.
If you've made it this far, please use my experience as a cautionary tale and do not be lulled into security by the number of high reviews, when that is mostly peoples experience in their retail store rather than repair work. I am shaking as I am writing this because I am so upset that the people tasked with fixing their own mistake treated my only family heirloom so callously.
I spent $300 to have a ring resized (which i did not ask to be refunded, nor was it offered to be refunded), to now not wanting to wear it if their mistake cannot be remedied.
