In 2015 we paid over $7,000+ to have this company complete a large, 400+ sq ft deck on the back of our house, half way around our pool and another $4000+ to complete a 6' privacy fence all the way around our back yard. They never cut back the siding to expose the rim joist of the house to attach the ledger board, just attached the ledger board over top of the siding. They used no spacers, no flashing, no joist hangers and not a single screw in the entire deck. It's been 10 years of warped boards, knots, splinters, crown down, one sag in the middle support toward the pool side which I've had to add a support underneath to stop it from sinking further, and oveerall the worst job I've ever seen on the construction of a deck. Over 400 sq. ft and at 10 years I'm having to completely remove the deck and rebuild. Worst part is, we've worked hard at trying to maintain the deck with several coats of stain after the 1st year. The 6' privacy fence has also been a nightmare, replacing 3 posts with two more that need replacing, I've replaced the 2" x 4" spans all over the place and at least 125 pickets. I wouldn't let this company build my dog house! I'll add photos later as I'm still in the process of deconstructing this nightmare of a deck now. Based on your response, I'll add this. I was not home at all on the day you put the deck in. You put in a $7,200 deck in one day, not leaving time for appropriate setting of any concrete, which is of course why the deck settled horribly after the 4th or 5th year. Because I was not home and never observed any of the structure, how would one know that: You used no real fasteners other than ring shank nails, which all popped by the way and we stained this deck at least 6 times in the past 10 years. Likewise, you used no joist tape, no joist hangers (not one), no flashing, and you actually attached the ledger board directly to our vinyl siding. Why didn't you remove the siding to get to the rim joist to attach the ledger properly? Why didn't you use appropriate flashing so that water didn't just run down the siding and onto the ledger which is now mostly rotted? Why didn't you use proper fasteners? Why didn't you use proper carrying beams set in concrete correctly so the deck didn't sink after 4 or 5 years? Why didn't you use joist hangers? Why didn't you use joist tape to protect the framing? Why didn't your guys use sound construction technique like ensure crown up in the framing or proper crown so the deck boards wouldn't cup and hold water which created enough water damage that I actually had to replace a portion of the deck 2 years ago? All that shiny new Yellawood on top means nothing if you do not ensure sound construction techniques. And as we recall you were extremely difficult to work with and down right rude and here you are, instead of apologizing for your aweful deck (and fence btw which we paid over $4,000 for as well that has been nothing but a headache), you're trying to defend this travesty. Like I said, I will be taking photos of your wonderful work and I will once again edit this post to include those photos. I wonder what you'll say then?
