I have been getting my taxes done at the Center there on a Fort street for many years now.
The staff and the volunteer are very kind and very helpful.
I can't see where anyone would be able to rightly say a bad thing about them.
My hats off to them all.
Definitely always 5 Star.
Office on Fort Street
I needed help with paperwork. I looked it up online and takes me to department of aging, I have tried this and I went there and said I was confused about all the paperwork, I was sent away. This was in Sept. well I still don’t know what to do with all the dss paperwork still confused and I’m still searching for some help. Have sat and cried so many times, Now with insurance changes. I thought they were supposed to help seniors. I asked A I and AI suggested dept of aging. Well I don’t think so . I still don’t know what to do. The lady at the desk wasn’t any help at all, and the ones in the back were just standing around. I got there when they opened the doors. the stress and disappointment , I can’t keep going on looking for help, I know when I lived in Barry county. Lana helped me with everything, I always walked out of her office feeling so much better.

I started to delete this. I didn’t go back to this office
I had to reapply and do the whole application and I got it done yesterday. I will have to wait and should hear back within 10 days . What is important with the insurance changes I need to show I need assistance I think ! To get help with my medication. I maybe wrong, like I said I am confused. I finally got to talk to a real person on the phone’ I about fell over. I couldn’t count how many times I have called. The lady stayed on the phone with me the whole time to help me get through the whole application. I told her about getting confused . It’s hard to tell people when you can’t understand what is going on. This confusion started this year, I know I had my blood work done and medication maybe part of it I’m not sure. But know it showed my B 12 was very very low, and one side affects is confusion. And most of the side affects are affecting me . . I don’t like complaining and I always give great reviews. But
I said I was confused , had my hands full . Because I didn’t know what I needed help with . I said paperwork. Just where are seniors supposed to go? I like to know? I will never go to the office on Fort St .. The one in Fremont helped me some. Yawi I think. But I needed to send more information I tried to upload it and I think I didn’t do it correctly. But they had all the information that Yani sent so she did help.
I'm sure they have good people and great programs, but there is a clear disconnect between their marketing and reality. Called last Thursday and left a message (for help with Marketplace insurance) when no one was available. Called back Tuesday after not receiving a call back. The reception person told me someone should answer as they are not all busy. Got transferred to the wrong area and then back to the same recording asking me to leave a number and someone would call back .... I might suggest stopping the advertising asking people to call for help with Marketplace when the reality is no one's available to help.
My wife had a similar experience last fall when trying to get some information, so this seems to be more of a pattern more than an isolated incident.
I was very fortunate to move into a Springfield neighborhood that had some seniors living there. I was paying to get my taxes done every year, and unfortunately, 2 years in a row, the company I have been using for at least 20 years messed up on my taxes but never offered to compensate me for their mistakes. I won't name them because I don't believe in trashing a good company because of a few bad apples. Well, my neighbor told me that I didn't have to pay to get my taxes done. They gave me the number for the seniors center. I will let you know that it takes time for an appointment depending on when you call to get one, but they were so friendly and helpful. I thank all those who volunteer their time and effort to help us seniors keep what little money we do have to live on.
