I offered these photos to him. Do you want someone to make you feel stupid? That's the place to go. I went for a cable for the lawn mower. The model number was faded but I had enough information to get a cable. Was told there's so many cables he can't do anything for me without the model number. I got it from Amazon, they didn't freak out because I didn't have the model number. And it was only nine bucks.
Scranton Grinder and Hardware has done some decent work for us in the past, and we appreciate their efforts. However, the overall experience at their store leaves something to be desired. It’s not about them being a small business or lacking the resources of larger competitors—it’s more about the atmosphere and attitude. From the moment you walk in, there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm or motivation with the staff members. One of the employees, a gentleman with a ponytail, consistently gives off the impression that your presence in the store is more of a burden than an opportunity to help. While this might just be his personality, it doesn’t come across as welcoming or client-focused. We recently took two chainsaws in for repair. They successfully fixed one, which had a flooded engine, for $45—a fair service. However, the second chainsaw was deemed beyond repair. While I understand the situation, I was surprised to receive it back completely disassembled in a cardboard box. It wasn’t taken apart when we brought it in, so I was confused as to why it wasn’t reassembled before being returned. The explanation was that since it was “totaled,” there was no point in putting it back together. While technically logical, it felt like an odd and incomplete resolution for a paid service. I’m sharing this feedback not to be harsh but in the hopes that it helps the business reflect on their customer service approach and processes. A little more effort in creating a welcoming environment and ensuring clarity in their services would go a long way.
"Do you have a carb bowl o-ring for this?" "Yes." "Do you have an air filter like this for an old 1980s Briggs engine?" "Yes." "Do you have an intake gasket for a Tecumseh lawn mower engine?" "Yes." "Do you have a carb rebuild for this chainsaw?" "Yes." Do you have a new flywheel key for this?" "Yes." "Do you have a spark plug for...." "Yes." Either bring the old part in, or bring the piece it connects to. They will get it. Parts are typically in stock (plugs/filters/gaskets/etc), so you know what that means... ***You leave the store with the part in your hand, no waiting for USPS to deliver!!!***
