Law's did an amazing job for us, I highly recommend them. From the first walk through for the estimate to the final inspection Jeremy and his crew were very professional and responsive paying attention to every detail. We had a somewhat complex project where two large sets of brick steps were removed so another contractor could do work before the steps could be rebuilt. Jeremy made the scheduling very simple, he and his crew were onsite to remove the old steps about a week after we signed the contract. Jeremy made the scheduling very simple, he and his crew were onsite to remove the old steps about a week after we signed the contract. Once the other contractor was done, a quick call with Jeremy got us on the schedule to have both the steps rebuilt and new brick planters installed. Several things really stood out about the work Law's did for us; 1. Very responsive and proactive, Jeremy provided regular updates and responded to calls and texts within minutes. 2. Attention to detail, his crew clearly takes pride in the finished work, they work hard and have a schedule to meet, but they never rushed! The final result are professional and you would never know that the steps and flower beds were not original to the house. They also straightened up the site at the end of each day so we were still able to access and enjoy our back yard while the work was going on. 3. No surprises! We knew when they would be on site and what work would be done. The access to the back yard is off the driveway and they kept their equipment out of the way so we could easily get in and out of the garage. In summary, we got great customer service, timely completion of the job and a finished product that we are pleased to show off to our family and friends. If you are considering masonry or brick work you owe it to yourself to get an estimate from Law's.
I am only giving one star because it doesn't allow Zero. Stay away from this company! Had a terrible experience, as Jeremy immediately attempted upcharges over his quote, demanded 20% down to get on his schedule, but upon reading the fine print of the quote later the 20% down is only required if the job is over 5k, which proves he planned the upcharges. When I asked later why I was charged 20% down when the contract said only over 5k, he said "why'd you pay it?" Owner is not present on site to ensure good workmanship, and I did not see until the tarp came off and he demanded to be paid, even though tuck-pointing was not even half way complete... When I asked later why I was charged 20% down when the contract said only over 5k, he said "why'd you pay it?" Owner is not present on site to ensure good workmanship, and I did not see until the tarp came off and he demanded to be paid, even though tuck-pointing was not even half way complete (see pics), and graffiti removal attempts by Laws failed, while I got Goof Off Graffiti removal for brick and got it off myself ( see pic), and worst of all my chimney rebuild resulted in a chimney that was crooked, had sagging courses, deep and shallow joints with no consistency, and the courses were not planned at all so they pieced in little 1-2" wide pieces all down one side, some of which were backwards and had the lettering showing out ( see pics). The flue inside was even installed crooked, and had broken bricks left inside. Its not even usable as a wood-burning fireplace after a rebuild because of how bad it was done. When we met to discuss his comments were, and they are recorded on video: "its hard to find good help these days', "its on the side of your house, you'll only see it when your mowing", and "my foreman is going through a divorce and is probably distracted" plus "I have an english/ spanish barrier with my other guy." So in the end I offered 80% of the total job IF he fixed it the best he could, the reduction being because the chimney cannot be fixed, it is ugly and badly constructed, and unless its torn down it'll still be ugly. He said, "no way, pay me or I file a lien on your property." The next day he called me and said "your offer was fair, but I don't want to complete your job, find another contractor to finish and pay me the difference." I said why would I pay you the difference, I have to find someone else, AND my chimney is still terrible. I had 5 masons/ builders come to look at it, and 4 of 5 said its so bad I will not attach my name to trying to fix it, I'll only do a tear down. One mason finally agreed to fix best he could if I didn't share as work HE did. In all my wife and I had 9 other contractors work on our complete rehab, none required any $ down (except Laws), only payment when complete and satisfied, and all 9 delivered on their promise, and all 9 were paid that same day of completion. Some we even paid over their price because they did such a great job, and finished so quickly. I rarely post a bad review, try to only do good ones because I know everyone wants to complain these days, but in this case the public must be made aware. This could happen to you if you choose Laws! I have over 50 pics total, statements from other masons, and the inside of the chimney inspection report which says it is not a usable wood-burning fireplace. Bertrand Twp Building Inspector condemned the work, and we discovered he isn't even licensed in Michigan, after claiming he was. We just wanted a pro mason to share our vision of restoring this home, and Laws ruined that possibility. Then complains about my review after forcing me into court. They quickly realized that was a mistake when my lawyer found out they aren't even a licensed contractor in Michigan. I think that says a lot about a contractor when they'll take a job at your residence and say they are licensed when they are not. Do your research first! The pictures are from when they said they were complete. Just a terrible business, stay away! Laws has replied to my post saying it is half truths, etc. I have 100% of it documented with pictures, even video where Mr. Law blatantly refuses to fix the work or reduce his price, and says " its on the side of your house, you'll only see it when you're mowing", in response to the terrible masonry work.
I have to say after some miscommunication/mistakes were made. They did end up fixing all issues and did a good job. They only things I would recommend is that you check all loose ends, take ownership and keep the area clean. Various debris/mix and dead grass spots after they did their work. Also leave a voice mail other wise they won't answer you/give you a call back.
$17,000, Cracking cement creating a future hazardous porch made me post review! In the summer of 2022, we noticed that our front porch which is constructed with masonry on the sides and concrete on the top was in need of some repairs. A few of the bricks were loose on the sides, and there was a crack beginning to appear in the concrete where previous owners had added a handrail that was not original to the porch. As we were in need of masonry and concrete repairs we reached out to Laws Tru Stone. Originally the repairs were intended to be a patch on the cracked concrete where the handrail was located and tuckpointing to the brick work. Bullet Pointed Issues: 1. CONCAVE pinkish porch in first concrete work done by Laws Tru Stone, with water retention (see photos) 2. Messy concrete job, concrete splatter all over siding, front door, and columns – both times reddish and dark grey concrete (see photos) You would think there would have heard of taping off and covering areas of work like a painter. 3. Gap in between porch floor and front door threshold in pink concave concrete (see photos) 4. Dark grey concrete even though pinkish red requested, our invoice says pink (see photos) 5. Concrete dust all over neighbor's house and our house when redoing the concrete 6. Grass killed due to concrete dumped around 7. What kind on company does not do a follow up call after the job is done, especially with it costing over $17,000. 8. Black concrete cross cracked in 2 years (see photos) hollow sound under x crack! TLDR: It took a while after hiring, for them to secure a date for the project. Once the work began and the crew began removing the loose brick so they could clean and tuckpoint the bricks they discovered that the concrete was crumbling. Jeremy happened to come by and check on the project that day, Jeremy stated that they could do a patch on the concrete to get us through. We didn’t want a patch to get us through, we wanted a sturdy and secure porch. Jeremy said it would cost more to take out the old concrete and pour new, which we understood. We requested a pinkish hued concrete in hopes of trying to match the original old concrete steps as best as possible. On the day the concrete porch was to be worked on a third man joined the job. He arrived a few hours after the other 2 crew members and was on his phone for most of the entire job. The original crew left at their normal time, and the third/ new member stayed a few hours more, again on his phone while “working”. Once the porch dried, there was a very obvious concave portion in the center of the porch, as can be seen in the photos. The coloring was also patchy (see pics), Rain water collected heavily in the spot, one can only imagine what that would be like in winters in Northern Indiana. When Jeremy came to inspect the work, he was shown the pictures of the rain collection. He requested a few days to try and come up with a solution to the issue. At this point I felt RED FLAGS and was getting the run around. The resolution that was suggested was to put a POOL DRAIN in the center of the porch to help with the water retention. A solution that we were not satisfied with. Who wants a pool drain in the center of the front porch? Has anyone ever seen a drain in a front cement porch? We requested a redo of the porch with a flat porch surface. On the day of the redo Jeremy came out with the same man who originally did the poor/ not enough concrete job in the first place. The concrete was cut out roughly estimating 2 inches deep, which created quite a mess, concrete dust everywhere even into our neighbor's house. They mixed and poured out the new concrete which turned out to be dark grey not reddish. A review was never left prior because in the end of all the hassle and run around we just wanted to put it behind us and be done with the whole thing. but, just 2 YEARS LATER AND THE CONCRETE IS CRACKING! All the hassle and stress of dealing with the porch, just so we will have to go through all of this again.
