Fascinating visit to the small museum which is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Alaska. A murder was also committed there. Friendly staff & interesting exhibits. Well worth the $10 entrance fee.
Small clean museum showing the evolution of Kodiak throughout the years, from early settlers, the military buildup during WW2, to the earthquake and tsunami devastation in the 1960s. Small gift shop and a clean restroom are also available. Good views of the main bridge are also available behind the museum.
The Kodiak History Museum is a gem for anyone interested in the rich heritage of this Alaskan island. Located in a beautifully restored Russian Orthodox church, the museum offers fascinating exhibits on Kodiak’s Native Alaskan culture, Russian colonization, and fishing industry. The displays are well-curated and provide a deep dive into the area's past, making it both educational and engaging. Whether you're a history buff or just curious about Kodiak, it's definitely worth a visit!
