Hi-Tech Coatings

I recently had the unique opportunity to compare two garage floor coating companies side-by-side—one in Salt Lake City and one in St. George. Hi-Tech Coatings handled the St. George project, and while the finished floor looks great, there were a few notable concerns that kept this from being a five-star experience—at least initially. The positives: Hi-Tech was very professional in their communication. They showed up on time, were responsive throughout the process, and clearly knew their product. Brian was especially helpful and always available to answer questions. The coating itself appears to be high-quality, and I was convinced they used top-tier materials. Areas for improvement: There were a couple of hiccups. First, the crew extended the coating all the way to the beginning of the driveway, which I found unusual and not what I would have preferred—especially since there is a perfect joint inside where the garage door contacts the floor. With the garage door closed, it didn’t look quite right. To their credit, they did come back to grind it back, but this left the edge looking visually different from the rest of the driveway and damaged the garage floor coating in one place. This could have been avoided if they had simply asked where I wanted the coating to stop. For reference, the Salt Lake company made a point to ask this up front. Second, the application was a bit sloppy and wasn’t cleaned up well. There were flakes stuck to the baseboards and paint smudges on the walls. I couldn't remove the flakes even with a metal scraper, so I spent the better part of a day sanding and repainting the baseboards, touching up the walls, and vacuuming flakes. Again, this wasn’t an issue with the other project and company in Salt Lake, so I have to chalk this up to a lack of attention to detail by the Hi-Tech installer and not customary to this type of job. The house is less than two years old and the garage was very clean, so what you see in the photos all happened during the install. I also noted that the finish wasn’t as glossy as the Salt Lake job. It had some dull areas that felt like dry spots where the clear coat was a little thin. Update: After I posted my review, Alex, the owner, personally came out to inspect the dull finish I reported. He apologized and explained that it didn’t meet their usual quality standards. He had an installer come back out to sand and lay down another coat. The result is fantastic—the floor is now glossy and beautiful. I really appreciate that they took the time to make it right. It showed that they care about their reputation and about doing a thorough job. Final thoughts: Despite the early bumps, I’m updating my review to reflect the excellent follow-up. I’m still holding at four stars because of the initial issues, but I would absolutely use Hi-Tech again. Their responsiveness and willingness to stand behind their work earned my trust.
