Hernandez Hardwood Floors, Inc.

We used Hernandez to install hardwood flooring throughout our house in October 2022. While we really like the flooring, Hernandez ended up damaging the bases of our kitchen cabinets during the installation. There are pieces of wood from the cabinets that were gauged out by the flooring equipment. I know that this is damage done by them because we applied painter’s tape around our cabinets just before the flooring was installed to protect the edges of the cabinets and to seal them up to prevent wood dust from getting inside the cabinets. After the flooring was installed, we noticed that the painter's tape was scraped off and gauged out (see photos) in several spots. When we asked Hernandez about it, they brushed it off and said they could stain over the gauges. This is not a fix. Additionally, we were told that the baseboards could be removed and reinstalled. But after reinstallation, the baseboards had caulking still on them, and some were also split or gauged (from prying them off the wall during removal) so some were damaged and it looked sloppy when reinstalled. Just replace your baseboards, that’s what we ended up doing. We hired someone else to do this at an additional $5000 cost to us (most of the baseboards in the house were replaced).

Hernandez hardwood floors did a great job for me. My floors were from the 1950's and also had a floor furnace patch that they did and you can barley tell it was there. They matched it beautifully and brought my floors back to life. They even went the extra mile and put a door jam piece down for me going into the bathroom to cover the gap that was there between the floors. I will definitely be calling them back when I get ready to do the bedrooms. They also did very well not damaging my new paint job I just had done very nice people.

We are so glad Hernandez Hardwood Floors was recommended to us to refinish our 1940s oak floors. They were very professional and we enjoyed working with the Hernandez brothers, their team and especially Maria in the office. We felt comfortable with the process start to finish: they adjusted the quote several times and helped us define the scope of the project, they were able to start earlier than expected, they always showed up on time, they were tidy with their tools and equipment, and they didn’t stop until we were happy with the finished product. Thank you for reviving our beautiful floors!

They asked for $2,200 up front on a $3,100 job! I DO NOT advance money to ANY contractor on a job that is mostly labor, and is scheduled to take only 2 days. I enjoyed meeting Juan Hernandez, and their quality might be excellent. I have heard numerous stories of contractors that were paid a deposit that never showed, or showed whenever they got around to it. Contractors can file a lien on your house if you don't pay them. A homeowner's only recourse is to file suit, and that costs more than the disputed amount in many cases. Finally, if a contractor can't afford to front the money for a small job, they don't have the financial stability to qualify as someone I'll do business with.
