I hired Jason for a color stamped sidewalk & patio job in 2023. All of our contact during that time was absolutely fine. Jobs were poured and it appeared to be a quality job. Fast forward to Spring of 2024 and I noticed the front sidewalk is crumbling in spots and the areas that were more heavily colored were peeling. Jason did come out and offer to repair (which he did). I inquired what would happen if this reoccurred, to which he replied he'd rip it out and redo it. Fast forward to March 2025. Sidewalk is now crumbling even worse than before. Huge areas of sidewalk just peeling away. Sent photos and videos to Jason who said he would repair. I replied that we were probably past that point and should just replace. Asked him to come out and take a look. Jason came out soon thereafter, jumped out of his truck with a hammer and proceeded to bang all over the sidewalk. Didn't even say 'hi'. I could tell the attitude with him was now completely different. I was in initial discussions with another contractor at that time about just putting on a covered porch and that I would let him know how we would proceed. Around the beginning of April, I let Jason know that we are proceeding with the covered porch. He had already indicated he would tear out the old sidewalk and put back whatever we wanted on his dime, so we asked for a small sidewalk to save him money on rework. Porch construction started middle of June. I kept Jason aware of the entire time and when porch steps were set for him to pour sidewalk. He couldn't give me a timeframe and wanted to come out to take a look. Also, during setup when I was moving rock around, a FedEx driver stopped to talk about the sidewalk. Turns out he helped Jason pour my job. He wanted to know what happened. I explained either the heat, or too much color agent caused the issue. He informed me that this was NOT the first time this had happened. The way Jason presented it, this had never happened before. Jason came out last week and, according to the porch contractor, he came in pretty aggressive. The porch contractor asked him if he could help him to which Jason replied "You can't help me" nor did he want to talk to me. I just happened to see him, so went out to see what he wanted to do. I thought there was a game plan and that Jason knew where to pour. Jason indicated that end of this week (July 17/18) that he might be able to pour. I get that weather is a factor, but I was going by what he told me as well which was relayed to the porch contractor. The porch contractor asked me today if Jason would be out this week, so I wrote him this evening to find out. Jason insisted that the porch contractor needed to be completely done and gone, and I don't recall that being part of the agreement. The steps were set and all he had to do was pour to the bottom of the stringers. I called Jason to hopefully resolve this was met with hostility and outright anger. Even though this was rework, I'm still the customer and the way Jason talked to me was extremely unprofessional. It seemed that since Jason was doing this rework on his dime that this became his job and not ours. When trying to confirm what was agreed upon last week and why he was insisting that porch contractor be gone, he began screaming at me that he was going to do it the way he wanted to and that nobody was going to tell him how to do his job (which I wasn't). The screaming and temper tantrum continued for a good 45 seconds and, when I say screaming, I mean hold the phone away from your ear screaming. I replied to Jason via FB shortly thereafter that his services were no longer required, to which he responded "cool", and I believe this was his plan all along to avoid paying for rework. The Jason I spoke to tonight is completely different than the one I initially dealt with. And, based on his attitude which I perceive is a safety issue, I can no longer in good faith recommend Jason or Decatur Decorative Concrete to anyone.
