Below is my original post. Had a good conversation with ownership about the situation. They responded by sending a tech out to do further maintenance and upgrades free of charge and were transparent on the mistake. Was told if I had them service the replacement they would have done so at tremendously reduced rate (no labor charges). They changed my mind....should have just went with them in the first place. Good job AOD ------------ in 2022 I had my springs replaced because one broke. At that time the house was 7.5yrs old. American Overhead Door (AOD) did the original install and the replacement in 2022. Today I had a technician from a competitor come out and do regular maintenance. I usually lubricate at least 1x per year. The door was getting a little creaky so I wanted another set of eyes on it. The springs were pretty bad. Allowing 27lbs or pressure on the floor from the door. Normal is 5lbs. The door would not "float" at any spot once disconnected from the motor chain. They were rated for 25K opens and didn't hold up for 4 years. I had this company replace the springs. When he finished up, his opinion was that the springs from AOD were not the appropriate springs for my door. He said he could also see wear on the motor which could be due to these springs. So, about a 11yr old home, two times AOD installs springs with 25K open springs and they didn't last as long as one would expect. I did talk to AOD and they said springs last 4-7yrs. That's not very long. We didn't replace springs every 4-7yrs in my childhood home, nor the last home I owned. We'll see how long these new springs last, but dropping $1k every few years to open a garage door seems wacky.
We contacted American Overhead Door to provide a garage door repair estimate, following an accident causing damage to our existing garage door. From our first contact with AMOHD through to installation completion, we were totally satisfied. Our first call & explanation of the situation resulted in a quick plan to have an AMODA representative come (within a couple of days) to survey the damage, answer our replacement door questions & prepare a written estimate for us to send to the insurance company. The AMODA representative explained in detail their installation process, if the insurer would agree to the estimate. The insurer reviewed the estimate - and, with no concern, approved it within a few days. We contacted AMODA to ask them to order & install a new door & opener. Each step of that process, office & management staff kept us informed of the process. We had a very professional installer who completed the installation in less than a day - seeking input on a couple homeowner preference install questions. We are totally satisfied with the new door & opener. They are pretty, perfectly coordinated with garage trim color & the opener is so very quiet & offers a bright 360 degree light fixture. From Nick to Cindy in the office, to each of the reps involved, we received the best of professional service & quality! Five Star business!
American Overhead Door is a great company to do business with. They are timely, friendly, flexible and affordable. Communication was fast and great from the time I put through a request until the time install was complete. I don't need to explore any other options for future needs; they will be my choice.
