Southern Roofing & Renovations

Southern Roofing has their guys out canvasing in my neighborhood, but I have a sign that says no soliciting. These guys are on my doorbell reading the sign, talking about it, but still proceed to try and engage. It's one thing to stick your card in the door and keep it cruising, but to actively disregard it means I will never choose your company for business. I threw the card away.

I had them come out and replace a couple damaged roof vents. My shingls are black and they replaced the shingls around the vents with a dark grey. Looks like shit. How hard is it to match up a black shingle??? When my wife complained about it, she was told it was due to fading. That is nothing but crap. They will never be called again.

I had someone from Southern Roofing & Renovations come out and check my gutters for possible repair or replacement. I was told that I would get an estimate by noon the next day. I never got it. I called a couple of days later and was told someone would contact me the next morning. I never heard back at all. Completely ghosted.

Please do not use Southern Roofing. We were contacted by Michael Smith in March, 2025. He started the process with our insurance company to get a new roof. Southern kept going back and trying to get our insurance company to pay more money. They tried to get us to upgrade the roof. Michael left the company. We then got Alex. He was fired. We finally got the roof on June 23. It was curling around the edge. I asked the installers, and they said it would lay down in a couple of days. Weeks went by. I kept call and sending pictures. I sent emails asking them to send my insurance the final invoice. That fell through the cracks. Someone came out and he said it would lay down. He hammered a little on it. They finally called about picking up the final check. They said the roof wasn't under warranty, and they couldn't do anything until they were paid. They didn't show or call. I called last week to ask them to come out. They didn't get back. I have been calling this week and haven't heard back. I have had other roofers leave their cards on the front door. They can't even tell it is a new roof. They are the worst. I would not trust them. They do not stand behind their word.

I would have put a better review had they not swindled me out of an additional $3000. The initial quote for anything extra outside of my insurance was $1900, that's what I signed the contract for. They went back to my insurance and haggled them up to $4700. Be careful with this company, you'll lose money, and you won't even have the professionalism to go with it. I've been finding roofing nails all over my yard! (which they said they would "scan" for) thankfully none of my kids have stepped on any. When I first started the project, I had one contractor, and then he left and I wasn't notified of ANYTHING going on with the project...when the money was due, when I would get my paperwork...nothing. I literally had to text the man, just to be told he left the company and I should contact "so 'n so" about what was going on because "he thought it had all been handled". Then I was tossed around some more...at which point they made it abundantly clear that they had no idea what they were doing and were still able to nab me for extra money.... they're a crap company and if I could leave less than 1 star, I would.

The communication with this company is absolutely abysmal. Do not press go.

Southern Roofing and Renovations (SRR) broke the law and stole my money. SRR broke the law by illegally depositing my $64k insurance check for damage repairs into their bank account without approval or endorsement from my mortgage company, who was designated as a payee on the check and required by law to endorse. This action prevented my mortgage company from maintaining oversight of repairs and metering funds only when repairs were complete and inspected by a 3rd party. 100 year oak tree smashed my house. Someone on my street recommended a roofer. This roofer said they were also a "contractor". SRR installed a faulty roof on my home (which leaks) and omitted all soffit and whirly bird venting that previously existed. They also used ridge shingle materials below the standard required by my insurance company. Over a year later, the roof had not been fixed and no other home repairs had completed. Upon requesting to terminate the contract, which stated a max penalty of 2k, SRR pocketed egregious profits 20-30% higher than they quoted my insurance and approximately 10k in personal "commissions" for several employees. The owner of SRR was given multiple chances to make this right, but chose not to take action. Proof that SRR committed fraud is attached. On the front of the check, you will see the 3 payees listed: myself, SRR, and my mortgage company. On the back, you will notice there is only endorsement from myself and SRR - twice, but not my mortgage company. Beware.
