I hired Shly Deck for a commercial ADA ramp and landing that needed to pass inspections. The build quality itself was excellent—Art and his crew did outstanding work (10/10 workmanship) and even caught an error in the drawings that would have caused ADA slope issues. I appreciated that Shly corrected this without charging extra. Unfortunately, communication was very poor. What was quoted as a 10-day turnaround for drawings took over a month, closer to two. Calls and texts often went unanswered, Robert at one point responded with "Who is this?" which was frustrating...and the overall project stretched from an expected ~30 days to nearly 4 months. There were also issues with incomplete drawings that caused delays. Toward the end, James, who was newer to the company I believe, stepped in and did his best to help move things along, which I appreciated. James was very helpful when I was able to get ahold of him. Overall, great craftsmanship, but serious communication and timeline issues 0/5 on the communication front. Because of the quality of the finished work, I’m giving 3 stars, but I’d hesitate to hire again unless communication improves.

RUN. This was the worst company I have ever worked with. We hired this company for a $26,000 fence installation, and the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. During the install, the company could not even be bothered to return our calls. I contacted customer service three separate times, and no one ever called me back. We were told a dumpster was included with the job. Instead, they piled our old fence in our front yard for four days, leaving it as an eyesore, before eventually sending a truck to haul it away. They also claimed the crew had to dig deep holes and said we would be invoiced extra for that, despite the contract clearly stating that additional charges only apply if a jackhammer is required. A jackhammer was never used — I personally watched the entire process. To make matters worse, one section of the fence was installed incorrectly. It is too high and does not align properly, leaving us with a short section meeting a higher section, which looks terrible. For the amount of money we paid, the lack of communication, misleading information, are completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this company to anyone. RUN..................... In response to the owner that replied, no I have the correct company. Although I live in Beaver Pa

We were excited to have a new deck built, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Communication throughout the process was poor — calls and emails often went unanswered, and we frequently had to follow up ourselves just to get updates. The project also took much longer than originally promised, extending from the expected 5–7 days to two full weeks. I had to reach out to the project manager when no one showed to work which happened often. In the dumpster there were empty cans of beer. That didn’t feel good to see. While the deck was completed, the work felt rushed toward the end, and the overall process left us feeling frustrated. Over $13000 for this quality. There are other companies to choose from Edit to Shly Decks response (3/20/2026) I would appreciate the opportunity to review the response you referenced. To my knowledge, I did not provide any follow-up after the repairs were made to our deck. I would also like to note that I received a voicemail regarding my review that came across as condescending and unprofessional which was disappointing. Would you be up to hearing that? Overall, this experience has not reflected a professional approach to customer service. Based on the quality of work and communication, I do not feel the service provided justified the cost.

We contacted Shly Deck & Fence after seeing several completed projects in our neighborhood. While the finished work looked excellent, our experience with the sales process raised serious concerns. We initially worked with a salesperson named Robert and received an initial quote of $5,878. While the price was appealing, the estimate contained multiple errors and unclear fees, including listing the project as a deck instead of a fence, showing two different permit fees ($250 and $500), and including additional charges in the fine print without explanation. The quote also excluded approximately 15 feet of our backyard. While our property has an easement, fencing is permitted there, and the proposed layout was awkward and wasted yard space. We asked Robert for a revised quote covering the full yard. During this process, Robert became pushy, repeatedly pressuring us to sign a contract despite unresolved issues. This combination of errors, omissions, and pressure raised concerns that the scope and pricing could change after signing. When we requested clarification and corrections, Robert abruptly stated that Shly would be “passing on the project,” which was shocking. We were just asking for clarification and wanted to make sure we were being informed customers. I then contacted the company and spoke with James, the General Manager, who was professional, transparent, and provided a revised quote of $7,494. However, after raising concerns with management, we then received another quote from Robert for nearly $11,000, despite being told the company would not proceed. The timing and size of this increase, combined with prior pressure to sign, made us feel we were being forced into a contract that could become significantly more expensive. After receiving three vastly different quotes, I emailed the owner directly to share my concerns and never received a response. While we appreciated James’s professionalism, the overall experience raised concerns about sales conduct, pricing consistency, and oversight. Based on this experience, we chose not to move forward and are submitting this complaint to help prevent similar issues for future customers. Edited- after reading the response from the owner I’m going to add that I tried to contact the owner privately before completing a public review. I never heard back. Also, if they are shocked by the behavior of their salesman I would be happy to share texts where he is extremely pushy and unprofessional.

We contacted Shly Deck & Fence after seeing work in our neighborhood, but the sales process was extremely unprofessional. The salesperson’s initial quote for our fence was $5,878.It was full of errors — it listed the project as a deck instead of a fence, showed conflicting permit fees (one place said $250 the other said $500 for the exact same permit), it included unexplained hard dig charges of up to $75 per hole with no explanation of how they determined when these fees were assessed. . We asked for a corrected quote and for answers in writing to our questions about the dig fees. Instead of providing the quote he repeatedly pressured us to sign a legally binding contract we knew contained errors. This was putting us in a position to be stuck with a much larger bill than quoted. When I pushed back and asked for a revised contract he stated the company would pass on the project. Baffled by how we were treated and the fact that a salesman had the ability to pass on a project , I decided to contact the General Manager. The GM was very professional and provided a corrected quote of $7,494. Shortly after, the same original salesperson sent another quote for nearly 11,000. Three drastically different quotes, pressure tactics, and poor communication made us lose confidence and walk away. This is a huge investment for us and asking for quotes to be done correctly and with fine print explained before signing should not have been an issue.

The crew that built the deck did a great job but left mounds of dirt in the yard, I think they should have removed the dirt. The rest of the SHLY experience was not good. Sale person kept email photos of grey decking and white railings, it took three emails to get other decking colors and railing options. The sales person also missed measured the dimensions of the deck we wanted. He came to my house unannounced to measure the deck again and said it was raining and that is why the dimensions were wrong. I didn't know a tape measure doesn't work in the rain. He updated the decking and railing colors but did not inform me the price was higher. until after I questioned the price increase. Explained the railing were mor expensive which I agreed to the new price but he should have informed me why the price increased. My county charges a permit fee of $103.50 and health inspection fee for $150, which I paid the county with a check. SHLY emailed and called me multiple times saying I have not paid the fees and emailed me other fees around $375. I emailed multiple times and left voice messages to try and understand the extra fees, with no response for days or weeks later with a response. This went on for several weeks. Because of my lack of confidence I asked to speak to the owner and requested an email verifying the correct color and dimensions of the desk and the price. After deck was completed I asked why there was no hand rail, SHYL explained there had to be four steps or more to install a railing. I asked for a two step railing be installed because mu mother in-law comes over often and needs a hand rail, SHYL agreed to pay of the railing dues the previous issues. They said it would take three weeks to get the railing installed. After five weeks I contacted James at SHYL, he said they were waiting on the material to arrive, after another roughly two weeks I contact James and and he said the railing would be installed the following Friday or Saturday. Saturday the crew arrived and said they could not install the railing because they were missing pieces. I emailed James again and a few days later said the crew would install the railing Friday or Saturday. Saturday they did install the railing, the crew did a great job installing the railing. I was happy with the deck but the office team was slow to respond or didn't respond to emails and voicemails and I spent way too much time having to manage the the process. They also sent another invoice for $142.24 saying this was another county fee but the county never told me they have a fee for $142.50. I paid the two required fees $103.50 and $150. I was so sick of dealing the SHLY I paid the $142.50 just to stop them from emailing and calling me. I think they should refund me the $142.50 because I county fee is $103.50 which SHYL confirmed I paid. I DO NOT RECOMEND SHYLY UNLESS YOU ENJOY ICOMPITENCE.

We called for an estimate to be made. They came, got their measurements, we went ahead and signed for a fence to be installed on August 13th or 14th. We waited a couple days to put the initial payment down. Then waited. And waited. He told us we needed a paper of the property. I said multiple times through the phone call that I did not have it. He sent me a pic of it and I just said I'd look again. I waited a day and told him I couldn't find it. So I waited and waited. Called the company. Called him. Texted him. No answers. Days go by and I finally get a response that he contacted the county or whatever and has said paper. Great! Now what because I've paid, he has got it. He said we have to wait. That was September 11th. I have not gotten a text. A phone call. An email. A letter. Saying what was happening next. I finally texted him but will he respond? The world may never know. The response time of this entire company is 0/10. At a point in time they said that it should be 3 weeks. And it has almost been 2 months since the start of this. And honestly, if I didnt already pay the money and sign the contract, I would have backed out of this entire thing. Edit to add. Oct 20th 2025 Fence came in October 13th. They got it all done in one day. A week later(today) two boards were warped and forced straight with screws. So now they are messed up. I get that it happens, but it has been too long for it to be like this now.

I signed a contract with SHLY on 8-30-2025. I got an estimate and signed a contract for a fence. I cannot get anyone there to reply to my emails for the installation date. I've called 3 times and talked to Natalie twice and Christy once. They keep telling me that I was sent an email requesting a plot plan. I never received it. I confirmed my email address with Natalie and still no reply. The person who came out and with whom I signed the contract (Lexy Hollis) has yet to respond to my email requests.
