I took the Electric Guitar Setup class yesterday in Austin, and it was fantastic! I’ve owned and played guitars for a long time, but never really knew what went into a real setup. Confession – I had never adjusted a truss rod before! Danny does a great job with the class. You will learn a quick and effective way to polish your frets and clean and condition your fretboard. You will learn how to adjust your truss rod, set string heights, intonation and more. You get a really nice collection of tools to use for setups, and you work at your own well equipped workstation. The class sizes are small so you get plenty of time to ask questions and have your work checked. You will also learn some things to look for when buying a guitar (e.g. how to identify a neck made with quarter sawn wood). I would recommend this class for anyone interested in learning more about how electric guitars work and how to properly set them up. One more thing… they will check the guitars you bring to the class to make sure that they don’t need work beyond a normal setup. If you have major nut or fret issues on a guitar, I wouldn’t bring that one to the class. You will not be learning how to repair a headstock break! Also, I would stick to more “normal” guitars if possible, maybe not your custom made headless 7 string with the exotic trem system. Our class had Strats, a Telecaster, a Les Paul and a P Bass. I would totally let Straight Frets work on any of these guitars, but probably not the best option for you to be learning on. Just my 2 cents.
