Mel is a very skilled technician and just a delightful person all-around! He looked over and tuned up a sax for me while I waited and charged a beyond reasonable rate for the work. My sax is now fully functional and I enjoyed hanging out with him/watching him work. A++ Highly recommended!
Mr. Arroyo is very skilled at fixing saxophones. He fixed my son's Selmer Paris Mark VI in 24 hours. He is very resonably priced as well. I highly recommend his services.
I have a 25 year old alto sax and a slightly newer tenor. Mel inspected them thoroughly and showed me the things that needed to be fixed. He patiently answered all questions and in the mean time we shared a bit of each other’s stories. He gave me an option to fully overhaul the alto as well as a cheaper option to fix only the things that were not working well. He did a great job in a couple of weeks, and kept me informed of progress throughout. Charges were very reasonable. I’m so glad to have found him close to where I live.
I took a late 60s Selmer Mark 6 bought off Reverb to Saxman Repairs where Mel did an extremely thorough job bringing the sax, which has been unplayed for several years, to perfect playability... but at prices that are very reasonable! You won't find a more honest, down to earth and humble technician, especially one with such deep knowledge and skill. Thank you, Mel! I'm a customer for life.
Hands down the best sax repairman I have ever used (and I have had work done by shops up and down the east coast, including nyc). Most recently Mel made my 1951 alto play with the smooth ergonomics of a brand new modern horn while retaining that gorgeous vintage sound. He fixed subtle eccentricities which I did not really expect him to be able to fix, but he did, each and every one. So thankful to have found a sax repairman who delivers on jobs on time on affordable prices. Have been using Mel for years and so far not a single complaint, only consistent craftsmanship.
