Mr. Collins arrived promptly after I made a booking earlier today .
Both he and I went through the tasks I needed to address and he went about giving me a price for the jobs to be completed.
Once agreed, Mr. Collins went about his work in a diligent fashion and finished up work in a friendly manner, cleaning as he went.
Many thanks.
I have used Mr Electric in the past and most recently to put in a 220volt outlet in the kitchen for an induction range. That went smoothly and the cost was ~$1,700.
So, I called them last week to give me an estimate to install another 220v outlet in the garage, for an EV charger, which I will purchase separately. The tech who came out was a really large guy. He asked where the entrance to the crawl space was and I told him it was at the other end of the house from the garage. He grumbled about that. I showed him the entrance and he looked in the crawlspace for 10 seconds and then closed the door and went back to his truck and started working on the estimate. A few minutes later he emailed me the estimate. My jaw dropped when I saw it because I was expecting the estimate to be similar to the kitchen outlet, which they had out in about 5 months prior.
The estimate was $2,800. I told him no way, that this outlet was only about 10 feet from the electrical panel,, which is just inside a closet within the garage.
Frankly, I don't believe the tech wanted to do the job because he would have big problems going in and out of the crawlspace. And the crawlspace is very clean and is encapsulated and plenty of depth to move around but this guy was Big and would really struggled to get up to he garage from the crawlspace door.
Nevertheless, I told him no way was I paying that much when I had just paid $1,000 less for a much longer run going to the kitchen for the range outlet.
He left and a couple of minutes later, sent me another estimate for $1,900. I did not entertain that estimate either.
Travis and his assistant installed a light (which we provided) and 2 small lights under our kitchen cabinets. The jobs were done very professionally, however, the bill was over $2000 which we find to be extremely high for a couple of hours work. I understand electricians charge a lot for a great service, but in comparison to other services, it seems way too high.
