Was quoted $882 just to diagnose a leaking toilet and $665 to repair a simple copper elbow. Total estimate came to $1,448. For context, this felt extremely high compared to typical plumbing work for these issues. I also paid $99 just for the visit. After sharing my experience, I received a follow-up call that I found unprofessional. I support local businesses, but this was not a good experience.

I need to revise my Google review per the request of the owner so I’ve called to get my monitor heater checked out to see what was going on with it because it was throwing codes. I paid $99 to have somebody come out to take a look at it. They came to the house. They did pass my driveway a couple times I then spoke to the driver and told him that it was the house with the spectrum vehicle and my business I should’ve informed them on the phone when I set up the account that the spectrum vehicle would be in the driveway, but I did not that is not the complaint that I have about the business!! As soon as the technicians got here, he walked in the room and Sighed like he wasn’t happy it was a monitor heater, then he questioned me when I told him it was a K-1. He acted like I was stupid and I didn’t know what I was talking about. The gentlemenwas not impressed with the unit and did not want to do the job. It was very clear from his behavior also. Once he looked on his phone to tell me that the unit had a dirty flame sensor that’s what his phone says he quoted some ridiculous price to take apart the unit when it was already opened for them to actually look and see what’s going on even in the house when he was describing things he was very rude he had no personality. I even tried to make a joke to see if I could get him to laugh to see that we’re friendly people he just looked at me like I was stupid. My husband and I were very unhappy with the service. Howard was very unprofessional and rude. The kid that was with him was very nice. I believe his name was Bobby. $99 for somebody to come out for 10 - 20 minutes and tell me that they can’t fix my Monitor heater and only look on their phone to diagnose the problem is a little much. I would not recommend this business to anybody. I completely understand that they are small business but instead of handling it as a small business should I received multiple emails and phone calls?

We had Homewiz replace our two outdoor mini split units. Installation was a mess, constant issues and when work was completed the units never properly worked. This was a little over a year ago. Since installation we have had to have repairs made three times using other HVAC companies. Currently, our heat is not working at all and the whole system is a mess. Furthermore we have learned that we paid nearly double what should have been charged. To have paid 30k and not have A/C or heat working is devastating.

Do not use this company they are unethical and they pull scams. I called them to replace a dishwasher. The owner called me to tell me he had to run new plumbing and electrical. I had the electrical and plumbing in tact already. He hit my card for $2800, I called the owner and sent a picture showing to plumbing and electrical. He said he was going to sue me if I call my credit card company and try to reverse the charge. I told him go for it, I have the pic for proof. Stay away from this company. They keep your card on file and charge you $100 just to go to the site. I looked over the reviews from this company and there are lots of scams. I am working with my attorney, I also own a business and I refuse to be a victim. The Attornery General and the federal trade commission along with many media publications will be notified. Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, Morning Sentinel, Kennebec Journal, and Sun Journal. If you would like your incident to be spotlighted feel free to post with your contacts and my attorney will reach out.

This review is posted to clarify additional facts following the owner’s response to my prior review. HomeWiz required full upfront payment for three services and encouraged same-day work. Because I could not accommodate immediate service, there was a delay. During that time, my oil company arrived for a scheduled monthly delivery and identified the actual issue, which they corrected at no cost. I then formally canceled the remaining prepaid services that had not been performed. The cancellation was ignored. HomeWiz arrived anyway, refused to leave when asked, and walked around the property taking photos. No work was performed, no refund was issued, and materials purchased through them were not returned.

This review is written to warn others based on my documented experience. Over a month ago, after consulting with my attorney and multiple industry professionals, I sent this company a formal written demand letter detailing serious billing discrepancies, misrepresentations of work performed, and a request for itemized receipts and supplier documentation for charges totaling thousands of dollars. That letter has never been answered, nor have the requested documents been produced. One issue outlined in that letter involved a charge for a “generator battery replacement.” After their visit, we discovered the generator had simply been switched to “off.” Once turned back on, the system reported a healthy green status with approximately 15,000 hours of remaining life, indicating no replacement was necessary. The letter also documented multiple services that were presented as complex or urgent but were later resolved independently at minimal cost, directly contradicting what we were told at the time of sale. We were pressured to approve same-day work and full upfront payment, with clear discouragement from seeking second opinions. If you take the time to read other negative reviews, you will see similar complaints raised by multiple customers. In those responses, the owner frequently claims the reviewer is “not in the system” or disputes events in ways that contradict the customer’s documented experience. When the same concerns appear repeatedly across unrelated reviews, it raises serious questions and suggests a pattern that deserves scrutiny. Because these issues remain unresolved and documentation has still not been provided, the matter is now proceeding toward formal legal action, including review of a prior $17,000+ project pending a full audit. I operate an ethical service business myself (Green Clean Innovations), and in nearly 40 years I have never encountered conduct like this. I am posting this so others can make informed decisions. More than one person has raised the same concerns, and it is time these practices receive proper oversight.

Timeliness 10/10…. They were quick to respond. But other than that, I’m not impressed, in fact mad. Seemed like a very deceptive business practice. I should have gone through the previous service provider but tried to stay local. The $99 estimate gets you on the hook (which I didn’t think would be bad since they said they refund it if you use their service). Then I was given a $425 estimate for a tune up… which was with them also keeping the $99 and he said it would have been more. ($524 for a tune up so far). Then he quoted me at $566 for a replacement battery. I initially declined saying that sounded way too expensive. After being rude calling me “guy” half a dozen times while convincing me he knew more about it than me and saying it needed a special marine grade battery that he could only get at one place; I consented because he said he couldn’t guarantee it would work without running it with a new battery. So he left to go pick up this battery he claimed I wouldn’t find on my own. (At which point I called several other companies quoting me $300 and $249 for the same tune up service) They returned and installed the new battery, (which was not a marine grade battery or anything special by any means.) I even called the company he purchased from (batteries plus). They were shocked when I told them what I was billed and said they couldn’t tell me his price but confirmed he just purchased it there and that even the non contractor price was only $170 on sale for $153 (for what i was billed $566 for). $1,090 for a tune up and replaced battery! Called another company that confirmed and sent an invoice saying it would have been $395 through them for the tune and and battery with installation and they apologized that I was going through this. I will be choosing the other company in the future.

Sent in a $99 invoice for an estimate - no one contacted me. I finally called to schedule and was told it was an issue with their AI - seemingly taking no responsibility. I was then asked point blank was I ‘looking for the cheapest price?’ I said I was looking for a quote. After some back and forth about trying to schedule, I was told I needed to ‘calm my temper’ and he would call back when he could look at his schedule. I then called back requesting my deposit back and was told that was not possible as the credit card company took their share - I was refunded $89. So for a mere $10, I got a rude introduction to Home Wiz, a company I will never call again.

Steep pricing not based on hourly rates cost me $500+ for a half hour work (a loose neutral wire). I will not recommend or use HomeWiz again.

I recently purchased a summer home in Wells. I needed some electrical work done upon acquisition of the property. I looked around on the internet for an electrician and stumbled upon Homewiz. At first I read all the reviews on the homepage and thought wow what a well-respected company. Upon further reviews I noticed that none of the reviews had a place of origin. It's clear they were all made up. I should have let that be the first warning. But instead I gave the them the benefit of the doubt, because they were close by, and called them to schedule an appointment. Right off the bat they gave me excuses about why they couldn't make it out quickly, how busy they were, and that maybe they could squeeze me in. I felt like I was being up sold right off the bat. They quoted me a rather substantial amount that I thought was exorbitant just to come out and assess the job. I didn't end up using the company. I found a much more reputable electrician who was well reviewed by my actual neighbors. One of which told me that homewiz had a bad reputation around town.....And that even if they did a poor job they would constantly harass you for a positive review after the job was completed. Is that what this world has come to these days. Companies harassing customers for positive online reviews. I guess I'm just too old to understand this type business behavior. I've been a business owner for 44 years. When I hear of such practices and activity I have to speak up. I hope my review will help readers do their due diligence and investigate any local company they hire to do work on their beloved homes and property.
