I contacted Ace Handyman to install weatherstripping and door sweeps on 2 exterior doors. I wasn't sure what to buy beforehand but was told that they would get the materials but would charge an upcharge fee. I wrongly assumed that the tech would have the materials with him since they are associated with Ace Hardware. Instead, he evaluated the job, surfed the Internet for 20-30 minutes and then went shopping for another 30 minutes. All at $229 per hour. He returned with half of the materials he needed and told me that I would have to order the missing materials on-line. After I received the missing materials, I called to reschedule so he could complete the job. I was told that it would be another $200 and that was a discounted rate due to the original job not being finished. I have since decided to have someone else complete the project. He was also tasked with providing a quote for replacing 2 pendant lights with can lighting. He looked them over and took pictures, but no quote was ever provided even with multiple requests from both him and the office staff. He also did not provide a receipt for the materials he purchased so I have no way of knowing how much the materials cost and how much of an upcharge was added.
