I had to find another mechanic because I was moving to the area. I know that it can be tough to find someone that you can trust, but I gave Jeff Davis Auto a try on the recommendation of a colleague. It was awesome! I initially talked to Gail over the phone to set up the appointment and he was a hoot. When I can in for my appointment, both Gail and Jeff took the time (despite being very busy) to get to know me whole I waited for my oil change. I was in and out quickly, the service was fantastic, and the cost was reasonable. I'll definitely be returning for my future car maintenance needs!

I had an oil change, tires, brakes, calipers, and a front-end alignment done at TOP SHELF AUTO REPAIR. Gayle and Josh are true professionals. I highly recommend them for all your auto service needs!

I have been taking my cars to Top Shelf (Formerly Jeff Davis Auto) for the last 10+ years. I travel 2.5 hours to take my Tahoe and Prius to Gale and his excellent group of mechanics at Top Shelf. Honesty is a priority for me, and Top Shelf goes above and beyond! Unlike many mechanics in Chicago, Top Shelf will not suggest unnecessary work or repair. The mechanics at Top Shelf are well trained and highly experienced. You will not leave Top Shelf disappointed with the service you receive.

Jeff, Gayle, and the entire staff are great. They've done oil changes, fuel injector work, and a handful of other jobs for me on my vehicle that has over 110K miles on it. They offer honest advice and feedback at every step. My car is still running well! The time and effort they put in to a correct diagnosis makes everything thereafter worth it.

2018 - my brother-in-law recommended I take my pick up to this business as he is personal friends with the owner and thought I would get a very good service from him. The owner must not have known just exactly who I was because service was poor and aggressive and he tried to take me for all I'm worth. Here's the full encounter: I brought my truck in and told him Only to fix the brakes. He said they would give an inspection on the vehicle and get back to me. I told him don't worry about an inspection, just fix the brake pads. A couple of days later the guy called me up in a slurry of emotion telling me that the vehicle has so many problems. I told him again, don't worry about it, just fix the brakes. Then he switched positions and said he thinks he knows where I got the truck from and wants me to explain how I got it. Full disclosure, my dad bought it from a dealership several years prior so he was mistaken about his assumptions. He wanted to buy the truck from me while telling me there's so many problems that it's basically unrepairable or will cost more than the value of the vehicle. I declined his offer and ask him yet again to just fix the brakes. He told me that I just don't get it and then started telling me over and over that the vehicle is junk. I asked him to stop saying that the vehicle is junk and he started yelling that it's junk. With the thought in mind that this guy is friends with my brother-in-law and I was trying to be nice, I offered that maybe he could repair a different vehicle that I have and he interrupted me and started yelling that I just don't get it and that my vehicle is trash. He got me so mad that I told him to put my vehicle keys in the truck and I didn't even want to see him when I get there. He wouldn't do it, I ended up having to go inside and demand my keys. Some years later, my mom, at my dismay insisted on taking her vehicle there for an oil change. They ended up keeping her dipstick. I was wondering how my brother-in-law would unpack that but instead of confronting his friend, he ended up just buying her a new dipstick.
Oh, and just for closure, I took the truck somewhere else and they just fixed the brakes, and the truck ran for years after.
