Reply to owner response: The material overage you speak of, I cannot offer to let you return what you didn’t leave here. You “billed” these items on your invoice but not all of it was left here. It is also important to show this stage as it was not done properly. Durock seams are to be mortared and mesh taped. Your crew applied the tape, however stuck it on wet redgard. Most people will probably not understand that is not right, that is why we hire professional installers, so we as homeowners don’t have to know how. Even the application of regard is not enough, you should not see “pores”, it will not be waterproof this way. Yes you did state... Yes you did state there was a math error, when you were here at my home ready to start work. Was I supposed to kick you out? Or have you come back after we demo the vanity? This sounds ridiculous. Edited to add photos and respond to the review: The job went beyond transparency and misunderstandings. If I’m not mistaken you Nagio own the business, it was well within your ability to provide a copy of the contract you asked me to sign day 1 on the spot. We paid $3000 for a job we had to rip out and start over with. How can we proceed to tile work with prep like this? The tub was not set in a mud bed, the gasket was installed on the top side of the tub - not the bottom. That is not a preference, that is a requirement and our tub would have leaked. The walls were not furred out so that the boards sat over the tub flange as the manufacturer states. We had no choice but to stop this job as we gave you a chance to remedy on day 3, and the bathroom was not right to continue. And the only thing added to the job was a niche. Hardly makes up for the $1200 difference. Nagio and his team were polite and on time, but from the time of arrival we had some challenges. We spoke via text about our bathroom renovation job, I provided photos and measurements and expressed areas of concern, along with our tub model (to be installed). The estimate that was provided to me had some math errors that I thought were clarified before arriving. We were told the job was $5304.88. I asked if the 50% he wanted to start was $2652.44 and he said yes. Upon arrival he proceeds to tell me he made an error adding it all up, and the new total was $6582.88. He said for the additional amount he would remove our vanity, which I felt should have been covered anyway, it was in the photos, and we were not asked to remove it prior to arrival. Before arriving he said he would install the tub in the original price, and said after the new job cost, he would include it, but it was already included. 🤷🏻♀️ He did install a prefab $100 niche, that is all I felt we really got in exchange for the up charge. Demo day went fine, demo crew was great. Day two, durock boards show up. We spoke about waterproof boards and I was shown a photo of a GOBoard installation before accepting the bid. I stopped him to express my concern and confusion, he assured me Durock with redgard was just as good, to let them continue. After install, we noticed the tub was not done per manufacturer instructions and the tub seal/gasket was above the tub and not below. We provided a third day to remedy the installation but it still didn’t comply with the manufacturer and would void the lifetime warranty and possibly result in cracked tiles and a leak from the pipe. We decided to cancel the project at this point and go a different direction. It is unfortunate and we never got to see the quality of the tile work, just the prep which in our opinion lacked attention to detail and no regard for the longevity of the expensive Kohler tub we purchased. I provided my feedback to Best Tile but we feel as though we’re just being labeled “too picky” based on the reply. Also, our bid listed 12 bags of thinset, 4 boxes of grout, 8 sticks of Schluter (that isn’t real schluter- it’s DecoLine) for approx 130sq ft of tile. Seems a bit much. He also asked me to sign an agreement when he arrived day 1, but after we started having issues I asked for a copy and he refuses to provide one.
