I brought my 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom to Steve several weeks back, and asked him to do basically a total overhaul on it (it had been showing its age, with particular bad fret wear.) Steve did a full refret, replaced the pickups (from Gibson 57s to Fralin Pure PAFs), tuning machines (from stock to locking Grovers), bridge (replaced the stock zinc with aluminum Nashville / brass saddles), tailpiece (swapped out the stock zinc for vintage aluminum), studs (replaced the stock studs with locking studs), jackplate (from plastic to metal), pots (CTS 500k push pull x4) and caps (vintage paper in oil), and also redid the wiring to use the Jimmy Pag...I brought my 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom to Steve several weeks back, and asked him to do basically a total overhaul on it (it had been showing its age, with particular bad fret wear.) He did all of this work flawlessly, with great communication and a fair price. For those that are familiar with Les Pauls, refretting can be a pain given that the frets are bound; I was a little worried about how it would turn out given that the binding on mine is starting to crack a bit, but he really did a great job (he didn’t retain the nibs, but I didn’t want him to- now there’s more fret to work with anyway.) Steve is a real pro, he did everything I asked and more - he also redid the nut - and the guitar is like new again. I know where I will be going for any future guitar repairs from now on. Highly recommended.

What can I say about my experience with the pleasant, patient, and polite Mr. Steve Morrill?
I took my Fender Jazz Bass to have a bridge mounting screw with a broken head removed. In less than 30 minutes he did the repair professionally and meticulously.
I'm very, very picky about my instruments, but from the start I felt I was in good hands. I recommend this to anyone who needs a professional, serious, competent luthier with fair prices.
Answering the initial question: I had a very pleasant and satisfying experience!
Thank you, Steve!!
PS. As a courtesy, he performed other services that I didn't even ask for and didn't charge me anythin...What can I say about my experience with the pleasant, patient, and polite Mr. Steve Morrill?

Putting all things aside, the first thing that is commendable is that Steve Morrill is a great guy. Fantastically calm and pleasant guy with tons of experience and expertise.
Ironically, I did not have a guitar problem but a violin problem. I called him and explained my situation. He offered his help while informing me that he does not work on violins.
Within 15 minutes he cleared up the nuisance problem, tuned the violin, gave us a tutorial on violin maintenance and care and charged us NOTHING.
I will recommend him just for his demeanor and attitude. I’m sure with 40 years of experience working on all kinds of stringed instruments he does...Putting all things aside, the first thing that is commendable is that Steve Morrill is a great guy.
