Haven't done much with my horn since college and the staff at Star music repaired one of the valves, re-attached pinky hook, chemically cleaned and greased all the keys. Trumpet feels new again and the staff were really helpful and informative. If I ever need instrument work done they'll be the first people I call!

I dropped several bass clarinets off to Star on December 5th, 2025. At the time, the tech was not available, and I was not quoted a price or a timeframe, but left them there knowing it would be a while before I got the instruments. On December 12th, I called Star and asked for an update, and I was told the tech would start on it in January as they have a large school instrument backlog and was quoted a price. On January 12th, I called and asked for an update and they told me it would be 2 weeks, as they still have a large school instrument backlog. Today, January 26th, two weeks later, I called twice. At 1pm when I called, they said they had no info and would call the tech for me and call me back. At 5:14pm, I called again as they had not returned my call, and they said it would be another two weeks before they would even start on my instrument, still citing a large backlog, saying that there were 10 instruments in front of mine. At this point it has been too long, and I am ready to pick up my instrument and take it somewhere else, so I offer to head down there before they close, only to be told I can't pick it up today, because my instruments are at their shop. So I offer to just drive over to their shop instead to save them the trip, and they say that I cannot go to their shop, without providing a reason why.
I would not recommend that anyone go to star music to get their own personal instruments repaired, they clearly do not have the staffing nor the organizational skills to handle their business, and they get defensive and rude when you call them out for poor business practices. I simply do not trust a business that has a backlog of school instruments after the school year is a month in. They either need to hire more people, or stop accepting such a high volume of repair work, it is simply unacceptable that a customer should have to wait almost two months with no proactive communication from Star. I've tried multiple technicians in the area and have found that only Pecknel music in Greeneville is capable of delivering timely, quality work with an accurate upfront quoted price. I have never had any of my instruments take longer than two weeks at Pecknel. I hope not to have to deal with Star Music ever again

I visited this music store intending to spend a lot on both classes and instruments, but they just lost a good customer. The lady I met was okay, but the older man was extremely rude and clearly has no idea how to treat customers. He seems like he doesn’t care at all! If he actually wants to sell, he should learn some basic customer service skills. To make things worse, he even spoke behind my back as I was leaving—completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Unbelievable behavior! I definitely won’t be coming back!

Attempted to rent a instrument for my son. Put in the request online and followed up with a call. I informed the guy I was using my credit card and my credit card and had still not been charged even though the online said they did a authorization so my card company may send me a text to confirm it’s me. The guy on the phone was nice and sounded like he understood. The charge didn’t process until a good almost 30 minutes after I placed the order. Just like I said I got a text for my credit card company asking me to confirm the charge. I did and called to let them know. Just like I said I got a text for my credit card company asking me to confirm the charge. I did and called to let them know. The lady left me a vm saying she could no longer rent to me due to the card decline. I was so confused because I called before hand and said it may happen. It then went into the 3rd degree questions about why I waited so long to get my son a instrument she said they don’t rent after the first 9 weeks of school. School started in august and we are in October. My son is a first year orchestra student and his teacher said we could get by his first performance just to make sure he liked it and wanted to continue. I honestly did not see the need for the question and I’m paying for a service. She then starts arguing with me about how open they are with rentals how they don’t run credit or ask for a lot of information and they don’t rent to high schoolers. My son is in middle school so I didn’t know what that had to do with me.I honestly was at a loss for words at this point I was not sure if she was blaming me for people not paying or upset with the process. No surprise we went somewhere else. I have never had such a unprofessional experience. Get a better vetting process if it’s that bad. I would have been happy to do a check it is not out of the norm for people to ask to do a soft pull. Running off new business due to old business makes no sense.
