After reaching out to a few contractors, we decided to peek around online for contractors/companies that specialize in outdoor projects. We stumbled on Precision Decks and Patios and found their reviews to be thoughtful and genuine (clearly from real people/clients).
We connected with the owner, Shawn, and had him over shortly after. We were super pleased and happy with the way the meeting went and the information he provided shortly after (timeline, drawings, questions answered, etc).

After reaching out to a few contractors, we decided to peek around online for contractors/companies that specialize in outdoor projects. We stumbled on Precision Decks and Patios and found their reviews to be thoughtful and genuine (clearly from real people/clients).
We connected with the owner, Shawn, and had him over shortly after. We were super pleased and happy with the way the meeting went and the information he provided shortly after (timeline, drawings, questions answered, etc).
On day 1 - when cutting through our patio and digging holes for the posts, an old septic tank was discovered. This created an entire new set of issues/problems and Shawn could have easily told us he was not able to help us.. Instead, he offered several solutions and gathered quotes for the additional work that would require additional permits/inspections, septic removal, fence removal to get equipment in our backyard, dirt fill, misc damage to grass/yard that required leveling and reseeding, and redoing cement patio. This was a massive undertaking as it really complicated things – and just so happened to be in the heart of their busiest time of the year. I didn’t ask, but imagine this at least tripled their project management time.
There were several teams that worked on the project and Shawn always let us know who was coming out and what was going on. It was awesome to see the progress as the days went on, and we were/are super impressed on the way they transitioned the new roof into our existing roof. Instead of having 4 posts, they built the back of the sunroom right into our brick/house structure for a much better flow and more space.
The trim/completion crew worked their butts off and had all sorts of challenges as our patio slopes slightly downward – so every piece required special attention to fit precisely. Instead of just “getting the job done”, we were often consulted with to make sure we were on board with what they were doing, and they offered incredible ideas/suggestions that weren’t even on our radar.
A few notes on the photos – the drone shots were done before the gutters were added – the gutters look great and tie right into our roof gutters. The new cement is from the septic tank surprise – and the TV was added a few weeks after the sunroom was completed.
We’ve done a ton of work to our home over the years and can’t say we’ve been this happy with any of the contractors that we’ve hired over the 10 year remodel.. These guys crushed our expectations – a true grand slam. This is a company you can call with confidence.

During the consultation, Shawn provided all the information we needed and didn't push us. We felt comfortable to process everything and did not feel like there was any pressure. Communication was prompt and friendly.
The crew was very skilled and hardworking. They were courteous and kept the worksite neat. You can see the attention to detail and precision throughout the project. They had to dismantle our gutters to do this and everything was put back together perfectly. The materials are high quality and gorgeous.
Replacing a deck and using quality materials is not cheap. We feel Precision's pricing is fair. We felt that the quality of our experience and the final product was worth what we spent and definitely added value to our home. Timing was as expected. We were amazed by the pace of the crew.
We now have a gorgeous and safe patio/deck. We have a wonderful space that we can enjoy after so many years of avoiding it. Thank you Shawn and the crew!

We interviewed several companies and Shawn from Precision Decks was easy going and had that small town kind of feel. We told him what we envisioned and he did a little research and found a LOCAL product, made here in Grand Rapids, that we approved. Our horizontal wire deck barrier allows safety and a clear view. The work was done quickly and the crew cleaned up any mess made. Shawn is a good guy! Definitely recommend him.
